From Mongolia (UB) to France (Paris)

Hey guys!

I'm currently planning a trip from Mongolia to France for this summer over 3 months.
I plan to go home through Mongolia, Kazakhstan Russia and then Ukraine and Europe.
I wanted to ship a French Transalp 600 by truck or plane to UB but I'm leaving France in 1,5 months and it's clearly too short. So, I'm looking for other options.
I have seen many stories on how to buy a motorbike in UB with a translator and more. Do you know if it's possible to find something like a Honda Transalp in UB? Which price?

My question is the following: Is it possible to drive in Europe with a mongolian motobike without a CDD and then register the bike in France. If the bike is similar to a EU model? I think that I will have to pay for the import taxes and stuff like that. But I'm scared to be stuck at the EU border...

Any help much appreciated!
Clement

First:
You can buy Transalps in Mongolia.

At Oasis guesthouse they have one for sale.

But I think, that the paperwork and Taxes and all that will bring you a lot of costs and troubles.
As far as I know you can buy a Motorcycle there, but not register it in Mongolia ( unless you live there. )

Why dont you ask Loxx Pan Europa in Hamm for a solution?
They are shipping lots of bikes in both directions.

Hi Clement,

maybe this man can help: a german called Vait owns a company in UB organizing motorcycle trips in Mongolia.

Maybe he sells (used and registered) bikes as well??? Hopefully your plan will come true!!!

Ralf

klausmong1 and Ralf1150GS Thank you for your answers!

FIrst, I don't plan to use Loxx Pan Europa because of the time factor.
I'm living France in 1 month and nobody will be here in France able to buy, drive and pack the motobike ready for exportation.
I'm going to send a mail to a profesionnal export/import manager. I will show you the answer ! I was working on a partnership with MASH. Maybe I could ask them to ship the bike to BU. But i'm scared to do this trip with this bike.
Do you think that a professional retailer in France know or is able to ship a bike to BU ?

And thank you Ralf for the Website i'm going to write an Email to him !

klausmong1 18 Nov 2017 13:11

As I said, in Oasis they sell one, and a guy called Chinzorig also sells some Transalps.

And Oasis also knows this guy....

Lamande 21 Nov 2017 23:03

Hey!
NEWS: I talked to a French who did the silk road last year.
He explained me that to get in the EU Zone I juste needed to legally own the motobike with all the importation and legal pepers and then that I could do a temporary importation in the EU Zone !

klausmong1 22 Nov 2017 02:27

Only to legally own it or also legally register it?

to legally own you just have to buy it.

But then it is still not registered.

klausmong1 24 Nov 2017 10:11

Sad that you write in France, so we cannot discuss that here.

Would be nice in an international Forum to write english.

Might be interesting fore anyone else too....

Or should we keep informations secret?

roro 25 Nov 2017 07:55

Hi,

I've asked to Mickey how many days it takes from Mongolia to Ukraine (through Russia only )....
If you know...
And what about Ukraine.
RR.

klausmong1 26 Nov 2017 02:48

I did that 3 times now. from Mongolia to Austria.

This year it took me 11 days to gt back to Vienna.

I had to go a bit quicker, because wa had an accident in Mongolia and lost a lot of time. ( my driving partner crashed into me with about 120kmh because he was not concetrated )

But there you have to drive long days.

only RUssia took 7 1/2 half days.
But to be true, I would only go for this option if I have no time at all and have to hurry up.

Ukraine can be done in 2 days. same her.

drivemongolia 26 Nov 2017 14:36

HI Folks,

I live in Mongolia and my name is Chinzo Klaus mentioned earlier I have few bikes for sale in Ulaanbaatar including Transalps we do bike rentals and tours. I sold couple bikes in the past most of them rode to Europe and most of them were bought from people who rode from Europe I can get it registered under buyers name it will have a Mongolia registered title and number plates also can give contacts of previous owner if that's a help to get it registered back in Europe.
We also started building bikers guest house in Western Mongolia Bayanulgi 100 km from Russian border we can get off road tires, spare parts and logistical support to whoever might be in need in this part of the world from next season.

Helo Mickey. Where can I find guys who want to swap motobikes ? Do you know any Website or something like that ? But It could be really interesting you are right! It's a beautiful trip that you gonna do indeed!

And Klausmong1 from UB to Paris I wanted to take 3 months don't you think that it's really too much ?

Lamande 26 Nov 2017 14:47

Hi Chinzo Klaus!

That's wonderfull and what you are doing is great !

I guess if the bike come from Europe and that we have the past owner name it can only help toi get the bike register in Europe.
Sorry for asking, but How much approximately cost a Transalp in UB?
I can't find any price on the web.

Clement

Thanks a lot Klausmong for your quick reply.
I've planned 12 days from Mongolia border post to Volgograd.
Then we will head to Georgia and Turkey but I've already donethis route.
About Ukraine, my question is about security issues to cross country and borders as well.
RR.

klausmong1 26 Nov 2017 15:29

Definitely no security issues.

I did it 3 month ago, no problem, as long you dont want to get to Luhansk or Charkiv :-)

only thing, the Ukrainian border guards are korrupt.
Russians very correct, and Ukrainians did not let me in the border zone without bribe....

" did it 3 month ago, no problem, as long you dont want to get to Luhansk or Charkiv :-)
"
It's not on my plan!
So in your opinion, the better road across Ukraine from Russia to Romania is?

RR.

klausmong1 27 Nov 2017 02:46

Roads in Ukraine are sometimes very bad.

This year I went from Romania ( over Moldavia ) in the danube area to Odessa.
Sometimes very bad roads in Ukraine.

And back comeing from Kursk to Ukraine, then Kiev and Lviv and Poland.
This road was mostly ok

roro 27 Nov 2017 07:54

Thanks again!

RR.

mickey76 27 Nov 2017 15:56

off road tires

hi,
that's interesting to ear that we can find tires in west mongolia ! do you think your business will work next year ?

nth-sieh928 4 Jan 2018 03:02

Hi Klaus,

What bike did you take on the route from Mongolia to Austria (kms, was it mostly through Russia, or did you go through the stans?)

I'm also thinking about taking my bike here across Mongolia and going up into Russia next summer, down into the stans, and then to the caucuses, and am wondering if a 150-250 cc bike would be capable to get through those mountainous regions. Also, is it safe to navigate Russia with a smaller bike that would not be able to spend most of the time on the highway?

Thanks for the amount of information you post on this thread.

klausmong1 4 Jan 2018 06:56

Yes, you see always people ridding 150-250cc bikes.

I rode to iran, usbekistan, Tajikiszan, Kirgstan , kasachstan, Mongoli and back over Russia.

I did it with a Transalp.

You see the locals ride with this small bikes.

Mongolia to France - August 2022

Hello,

No recent messages on this post but i try..
I plan to ride from Mongolia to France on August 2022. The idea is to send my bike to Mongolia with LOXX Pan Europea services. Once there, we will have a 2 weeks trip inside Mongolia with friends that will rent bikes at Cheke -Tour (already went there, it works well). Then friends will return by plane and i will return by road :cool3:.
My question is about the timing: Do you think realistic to make the trip in 3 weeks ? Mongolia - Russia - Ukraine - Hungary - Austria - Switzerland - France

Thanks!
Serge

Yes, it is realistic.

You need to ride a lot, but its up to you.

I did that 3 times in 2 weeks from Ulaanbaatar to Vienna
I always run out of time at the end

I used to start early, take brakes, did photo stops and still got a lot of milage at the evening done.

One time I did it in 10,5 riding days to Vienna.
I had an accident in Mongolia and lost time.
And I needed to be back on work on the 1st of September....
