Fuel in Uzbekistan
Dear HUBB-ers,
This summer I'll probably cross into Uzbekistan from Tajikistan. After Samarkand and Bukhara, I'll most likely navigate further northwest towards Karapalpakstan (Khiva, Nukus) and into Kazakhstan. As far as I was able to find out, fuel availability up until Bukhara should be fine, but I don't know what the current situation is afterwards. Can anyone indicate what I should prepare for for the 1000 kms from Bukhara to Kazakhstan? Thanks!! Mark |
Hopefully someone here has been that way more recently than I, but I recall being apprehensive about that stretch in 2010.
There was a gas shortage at that time, and you had to hit the stations just when the gas truck arrived or all the gas would be bought up by the people lined up down the road. Still, somewhere halfway to Kazahkstan there was a building with a barrier to close the road in sandstorms- and behind the building there was a guy selling gas out of a barrel. https://hosting.photobucket.com/albu...720&fit=bounds ...............shu |
I was there in 2023 and it was much better than 2015,2017 and 2018
So you can find more regular gas stations in Uzbekistan. specially in the cities. Just the stretch after Nukus be aware that there are less gas stations. You find one in Kungrad and maybe some in Jasliq, but would not bet on the last. Even close to Mouynjak we found a regular gas station |
The best information I have is that there should be fuel in Kungrad and Beyneu, but that's not first hand.

Thanks guys for the useful information!

Here a few inks where you might find fuel after Kungrad to Beyneu/KAZ :

But I would not rely on it, you never know if they have benzin on stock. If you get nervous, ask in cafes beside the road, usually they know someone, who knows someone..... And there was a gas station in Akhzigit right after the border in Kasachstan, which was new. before that, you had to count on 500-550km without the guarantee of benzin Also here in Muynjak is a regular gas station with 91 benzin https://maps.app.goo.gl/PfsCkqqXjpfAjMwN8 |
