GPS in the CIS
 

I'm aware that Russia forbids the import of GPS eqipment, but is this also tru of any of the 5 'stans? How about India, Pakistan and Iran?

I have had no problems entering russia with my own GPS clearly on view in the vehicle. I have been asked by the old bill what it is and they have been happy with the answer.

We also went through Russia and the 'stans (but not Iran, India or Pakistan) with GPS equipment clearly visible on the bikes with no problems. We often explained to cops who pulled us over what the equipment did and IIRC my travelling buddy even listed his GPS on customs forms. No-one batted an eyelid other than to wonder at how rich we all must be in the west.
