Help: Montana 600 in need of Mongolia maps, near tashanta Barnaul
Hi there I'm in Barnaul at the moment and heading towards tashanta tomorrow. I have a nice new Montana 600 in my bag basically being pretty useless, I tried to download some maps to it and failed.
I then thought I solved it and thought I brought some maps on some sd cards, and I haven't. (Unless I have and don't know how to load them on). Ok so I now have a Montana and a cradle being pretty useless. I need a computer and a person to help me put some maps onto it....... It's a long shot I know but I think it's worth a go. I'm registered to smelly biker maps if this helps.... Thanks |
have you seen this link from Colebatch about how to install OSM maps? they've got Mongolia, and it is pretty easy to install. You will need a computer though!

motoreiter is right.
OSM maps are really good, but you need a computer!!! and also download they waypoints, they are worth it |
No I haven't.... I doubt I wil be able to do it. I spent a few days trying to get the other maps onto it.
Totally confused. I'm just hoping someone will be around to help me, failing that... I get a computer and someone helps me over Skype or something similar. |
oops, I forgot to post the link:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...eet-maps-64135 the instructions are pretty clear, i think i you can get access to a computer you should be all set. |
Managed to sort this now. Thanks to all of you for your messages/emails.....
Met a couple of Swiss bikers who helped me out |

The only time i will ever use a GPS again will be to bang in my tent pegs with :rolleyes2: my advice to anyone would be to ditch the GPS and use local maps |
Sorry to hear if your woes Wesley.
As you say you will not be using it again (aside from as a hammer) can I please have it if I pay you postage and a few pounds? |

I never felt the GPS was for me sitting on my bike looking at the screen telling me to turn left / right here and how many hours to my destination I kind of felt like a horse with blinkers on. I advise anyone who is always using/dependent on directions from a GPS to buy a local map and turn there GPS off for a few days and see what is a more interesting / fun way to travel ? |

On a positive note, I am sure Terry will get many happy miles out of it bier |
