How much time through Uzbekistan?
 

I'm wondering about Uzbekistan, we are not sure if we will go down south that much, but it is of course a very interesting country.
If we decide to go there, then it will be limited in terms of time that we can spend there.

Looking at road conditions, there are of course very bad parts (no surprise) but it seems a lot of roads are pretty good and allow for travelling 80km/h or more.
We drive a car by the way.

Having travelled through the desert roads of Iran and Pakistan, I'm comparing it too that (including some of the heat and bad road quality)

Coming from Moscow / Kazakhstan, entering in the West and exiting perhaps near Tashkent, it is only a 1500km drive. And there the interesting cities are "nice distances" apart from each other, each part doable in one day it seems.

So is a drive from the Western border and going over Nukus / Khiva / Buchara / Samarkand / Tashkent and visiting those cities, should be doable in 1 week or perhaps 10 days?
I'm thinking with 10 days there is enough time to take some breaks and not only be sightseeing and driving. But maybe it is not enough.

This is excluding anything that we do onwards from Tashkent, because I'm not sure about the route yet.

By the way, I completely understand that there is much more to see in the country, and that you could spend a month there.

I think you mean the northern border from Beyneu to Nukus?

I would consider western border as coming from Turkmenistan.

The road after the border for the next 3-400km is kind of bad for cars, Dirtroad with potholes at the beginning, later asphalt with potholes.

So with a car you cannot go this fast.

the rest is kind of ok, sometimes really good stretches, than potholes again.


You can do it in 2 1/2 days, and also in 30 days , bit within a week you can see a lot, 10 days it is even better.

And indeed the road from Beyneul down seems to be bad. But the other sections are said to be 80km/h average. Of course that is just a rough guide line.

Anyway, I'm expecting the same stuff as in Pakistan. Having a car on a pothole road is usually slower than a bike. But in Pakistan I just drove in the sand next to the road, because it was faster :innocent: (had a Landcruiser at the time)


Anyway, thanks for confirming the view. Probably 10 days is a good guide line, because it allows for more breaks.
If we do it, it will be in June, when things already start to get hot.

Also not sure on how we will continue. Ferghana valley seems nice, but time consuming and not hassle free. Then of course there is Tajikistan (which would mean, not going to Tashkent).

I'm hoping to have a driving range of something like 900km, so hopefully that allows me to get from Beyneu to Buchara or Samarkand so that I can find diesel there. I will not drive above 90km/h to extend the range.
Perhaps I can make some modifications that I bring one or two extra jerrycans (I already have two jerrycans) which I could hopefully fit under the body somewhere. Those will only then be used for Uzbekistan probably.

Go Aidar kul (lake) nice place, beautiful swimming, Fergana valley, not much to see.
