I am Chinese and I am in Shanghai now.I often ride motorcycle with wife in China.Last year we does ride from Shanghai to Laos.I am glad to ansewer your question about China.

1.About guide.
Foreigner who travel in China needn't guide .You can travel by yourself.I haven't know need guide before i come hubb. It's a rumor.
But Tibet is a specific place. foreigner are not allow to tarvel by themselves.
IF you want to see the tibet scenery. i suggest you can go to west Sichuan,south Qinghai ,north Yunnan ,south Gansu.The four place scenery is as same as tibet.The Zang（Tibetan People）also live in there.

2.cost
food
chinese food is cheap.one hamburger in McDonald cost 13RMB.An ordinary meal cost 10~30RMB for one person
1dollor=6.28RMB
Gasoline is 6RMB/L now. I rember the price is 8RMB/L in May yesteryear.
Nommal hotel is 60-100rmb for one room.there is two beds and independent toilet.In Beijing ,Shanghai it cost 120-300RMB. If you live in a Youth Hostel, a bed cost 30-60RMB.

People in China generally ride 125cc or 150cc of the motorcycle, they are selling price in 7000-15000RMB.If it don't work, accessories are easy to buy, easy to repair. If the displacement is too large, it will not be easy to repair, because accessories are not easy to buy


3.how to ride in china?
There are two ways.
One is legitimate,anther is not legitimate.

1)Illegal way
Buy or rent a motorcycle in china. Use fake driving license and driver's license.
Motorcycles in China are ordinary people's transportation. General police will not check the very strict.
In this way, you can go to most parts of China.
Remember, don't go to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan central city。In this city local law not allow ride motorcycle include Chinese.

2)Perfectly legitimate
By your driver's license, through China's test, get the Chinese driver's license.
Buy or rent a legitimate motorcycle in china.
So that you can drive legally.



Of course, you can not have a Chinese driver's license, but with a legitimate Chinese motor. It's better than an illegal license and illegal car. Although this is also not legitimate.


I don't know how to legally ride your own motorcycle in China.

I have a legit Chinese License and want to travel to Thailand and Laos, what are the other documents you need to travel to these countries apart from my passport? Did you translate your Chinese Driver License?

I have a plan to visit China around Feb-March next year. I start from Nanning and now wondering if they provide rent motorbike services there @@ (includes licence also lol). Haiz, I could not ride 125-150cc motorbike, we usually use 110cc motorbike in my country :)).

Do you have any suggestions of adventure/majestic/ancient destinations near Nanning. I love Sichuan, Tibet also but it seems quite far, isnt it? @@

I suggest you go out through Mohan Port in Yunnan, China, so that the Chinese customs will not embarrass your motorcycle. It is very troublesome to go out by motorcycle at other ports

The last post on this thread was January 2023. Anyway I'll post hoping someone who is familiar with Guangzhou CAN international airport can provide some information.

I am flying from my home airport BKI Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia to KIX Kansai on end October and return KIX/BKI on mid November.
The flight will transit at Guangzhou Baiyun airport CAN, Terminal 2.
Carrier is CZ China Southern Airlines.

I have a 10 hour layover at CAN on my outward leg and return leg the layover at CAN is 21 hours.

CZ says I am eligible for free accommodation at CAN airport on my outward leg but am not eligible for the return leg which is a massive 21 hour layover.

Need to find a transit hotel airside at CAN airport for the long layover. The Aerotel Guangzhou is still closed. Prefer not to go landside if possible.
Appreciate any recommendations and information.

From what I have gathered, at CAN airport there is no accommodation at Terminal 2 airside.

There are sleeping pods at Terminal 1 but I understand it is landside not airside which means you still have to clear immigration.

If I have to clear immigration I might as well look for a hotel which provides shuttle bus service for pickup and return nearby since I have a massive 21 hours layover.

How hard is it to take motorcycle out of China?
 

Hello. I would like to ask a question about taking a Chinese registered motorcycle out of China. I am a resident, so I can buy one, and I have the Chinese motorcycle license. Is there anything stopping me from riding to Mongolia and west to Europe? Is there any challenge taking a bike out of China? Thanks a lot!! I really appreciate it. I want to buy a bike now, but I need an answer about this first or know who to ask. Thanks.

For the record in the event someone searches for information on accommodation at T2 of CAN Guangzhou airport.

There are no airside hotels at T2 CAN airport so you have to clear immigration. If you book a hotel close to the airport it is only about 10 to 15 minutes away by bus.
The cost is about USD$40 per night and this includes the shuttle bus to pick you up from the airport and vice versa.

As I did not have a Chinese SIM card, I could not contact the hotel. The plan was to use airport free wifi to call the hotel to organize the shuttle bus pickup using WeChat. China uses Wechat and not Whatsapp.
I tried to install Wechat before flying to China and it was a hassle. In the end Wechat would not work for me so even if I had data from the airport free wifi I could not contact the hotel.
By the way, the free airport wifi does not work.

So, after clearing immigration I looked for the airport information counter and asked the staff to call the hotel to pick me up.
Worked out and I waited about 20 minutes for the bus.

I don't know how long you'll be in China, or how elaborate your needs might be, but....I was just there for about a month, and I found a functioning SIM card (mine from home with an add-on data plan) essential in all sorts of ways. I also found both WeChat and Alipay essential--for communicating, paying for stuff, and even accepting locations and maps from people. Throw in a good translator app and China's pretty easy...compared to, say, eastern Zaire as it descended into anarchy in the mid 1990s.

I don't know if you can get those apps once in China without a local phone number (plus Mandarin). Setting them up was annoying, but I managed the night before arrival and I'm not good at that sort of thing. Might even be worth a quick Hong Kong run on the fast train if your visa allows.

I am back home already in Malaysia as Guangzhou was my layover on my way to Osaka and likewise from Osaka I had a layover in Guangzhou.

I flew CZ China Southern Air.

I did not bother to get a Chinese SIM card as I was only on a layover.

Did you make any headway on this . I am in the same situation as you, have a Chinese registered bike, licence ang I am trying to do a trip to Mongolia but no clue how to go about it.

Mongolian Embassy didn't answer my repeated emails, Bike tour operators just said hire a bike :(
