Internet café and uploading in Asia
 

In May I´m going on a trip to Mongolia and Siberia driving through Kazachstan an Kyrgystan. How are the possibilities to upload in Internet cafés?
Are there western keyboards or do I have to learn to type on Cyrilic ones?
Can I use a PDA and synchronise?
Any tip for uploading text and photo's is welcome.

Yes, I'm leaving the 26th of May and I'll be aproximately 2 weeks later entering Kazachstan, than Kyrgystan, the Altai and Mongolia.
I think you're ahead of me a couple of weaks. How do you return?

Sjeng: In the major cities in Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan, Erdenet and Khovd) you can upload from internet cafes. You may not be able to link a PDA directly, but they will probably have a card reader for you to use. Ulaanbaatar now has several restaurants with free WiFi so you can do it yourself if your device works with WiFi. Every provincial capital in Mongolia has Internet at the Post Office, but it is quite slow. OK for checking email and posting text, but it would be difficult and long to upload photos unless they were very small files.

Sorry, forgot to answer the question about keyboards. In Mongolia the keyboards all have western keyboards. Sometimes they have Cyrillic stickers on them, but they can still be used as western keyboards.

just one more practical thing... i presume skype-ing is perfectly possible at most internet café's if you are willing to crawl under the tables to plug in your wires... should we pack a headset, or are they really common nowadays?

Hi,
it's no problem to cross the border to Mongolia. The roads are in the south okay. At the moment the North has a problem with a lot of flooded rivers because of springtime.
The southern street is via Bayan Oelgi-Altai- Bayanchongor and via Avacher to Ub.
Petrol should be no problem at all and also food in the bigger towns. Please be carefull with the water.

Thanks gursed, I should be arriving in UB July 8-10th and be there for about a week before heading North and onwards to Vlad...
