Japan - Michi no Eki with MC

Hello all

All over Japan are roadside stations called 'Michi no Eki" that are a super upmarket rest area (compared to the rubbish here in Oz). It is normal to see campers etc parked there overnight with no issues.

Does anyone know if bikes with a small tent are acceptable?

Here is a link to michi's;

Not officially acceptable, but you can usually get away with it if you put up your tent after dark and leave (or at least take down your tent) early in the morning. Best not to do it right in front of the shops, though.
A few actually have campgrounds, but they are not free. camp | 検索結果: | 道の駅 公式ホームページ – 全国「道の駅」連絡会

Hi,

no problem at all,

i really like these places, there is wifi and most of time a place for shower and supermarkets.

Most of the time i pitch my tent after dark, but no one seems to mind, a lot of people come to spend the night as well, mostly in campervans. It is usually a lot of fun, locals want to socialize...

Never had any trouble, nor seen police here.. my advice; pitch the tent and open a beer, now you cant drive anymore so you'll have to stay :D
