Jersey to Nepal
Hi All,
I'm a teacher and my school has a connection to a school in Nepal (Dandar-Kharka) which was flattened in the recent earthquakes. I would like to investigate the possibility of doing a year of fundraising and then "delivering" the funds to Nepal by bike. I imagine that you either have to go North or South of the Caspian Sea - north looks something like this: Jersey to France France to Belgium Belgium to Germany Germany to Poland Poland to Belarus Belarus to Russia Russia to Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan to China (Tibet?) China to Kathmandu I'm aware that there may be some significant hurdles in this route - i.e. Tibet. However, going south seems to entail Afghanistan, Northern Pakistan etc and I'm not sure that sounds too safe! Does anyone have any help or advice - basically, is this trip a non-starter? I would have about 3 weeks and would be looking to undertake the trip on a 2003 Varadero 1000. Buying a new bike for the trip isn't really an option. I have two friends interested - would be a Tiger 1050 and an R100GS. We would then freight the bikes home from Kathmandu to UK. Any advice or experiences gratefully received. Dan |
I would be surprised if you get into and through China. Lots of posts here about it but basically it's still not possible. Maybe it will change.

China is possible .. at huge costs! You will have to pay for accompanying vehicle, drive + guide - there fuel, accommodation, food and wages while in China. Most in the past have exited to northern Pakistan. Tibet .. good luck with your own vehicle!
If you want cheapest .. then fly in and out - no bikes. Cheap with a bike is Russia .. then fly. Possible extension- fly to India and add a ride on a bike (rent/buy+sell) to Nepal. |
