Leaving China with Chinese registered vehicle

Hi there, I'm a school teacher here in Beijing and I am currently planning to make a motorcycle trip from Kashgar to ride the Pamir highway.
I could enter Kyrgyzstan and then into Tajikistan, make a big loop and re-enter China from Tajikistan via the Qolma pass. Or do this in reverse.

I am wondering if anyone has any information regarding riding in the Kashgar/Tashkurgan area and also taking a Chinese registered motorcycle out of China.
The motorcycle is registered in my Chinese name and obviously I have a Chinese drivers licence.

I would love to know if you made any headway with that plan as I'm heading over to work in september for a couple years and It would be a pretty nice trip.

I am finalizing my plans and still gathering information. Apparently there is a document called ATA which is a customs declaration form and deposit that says the motorcycle will be returned to China, and then the deposit gets returned. I am in contact with an agent who will help me get the form.
This agent will also help me to ship my motorbike from Beijing to Kashgar as the distance is about 3980km!!!

Where will you be based in China and what will you do here?

A question of pure curiosity: how does buying and selling vehicles work in China? Does it require local residency? I.e. can you, with Chinese residency but an official address in Beijing, just fly to Kashgar and buy a used bike locally, put it in your name and keep riding? How about selling it in another region, like Kunming?

I would like to exit China with a bike, too

Hello friend. Did you accomplish your plan? I'm residing in China and would like to exit China with a bike I buy but plan on riding to Portugal without returning the bike to China. Did you get the ATA and what does the deposit look like with that? I really want to just ride to Mongolia, then west, and not come back any time soon. Thanks a lot for any info! I really appreciate it.

I bought my motorcycle in Beijing and shipped it to Kashgar. Shipping was RMB2000 one way.

I had to pay a RMB30000 (yes, you read that right!) deposit on the motorcycle to leave China via Kyrgyzstan, onwards to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and back to Kyrgyzstan. The deposit was returned in full 10 days after I re-entered China.

Different borders have different requirements. I was told the China/Mongolia border was easier to cross. As you are not returning the bike to China, I don't know what happens then. I wonder if you could get an export licence?
