Looking at doing the Road of Bones in 2010/2011.
Hey all,
I'm fresh to this site and was wondering if anyone has done the road of bones from Magadan to Yakutsk? I guess I'm after some updated info on ,freight/costs from Sydney to Magadan, the locals, road conditions etc. The normal stuff you want to know before embarking on an adventure to the other side of the world on 2 weels. Thanks |
adrian scott is the man you seek

i am doing this trip around that time from europe to magadan though |
Magadan 2010
I'll be going to Magadan next year. I'll be asking around closer to the time to see if anyone is going that way.
I read that the airport there is open again, relatively recently, after they tightened the aircraft type-restrictions that stopped Aeroflot's old Tupolev aircraft flying out of there. My early idea is to fly from Magadan to Moscow and drive back to the UK, possibly via Scandinavia. Sokol Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Road of Bones
Do it, it was the highlight of my whole trip.
You want to be there in August I'd say. Or maybe July. I wrote a thingy about my time there. www.GABE-RTW.co.uk |
Gabe - read your Magadan thing - very interesting! What year was it? More info about the Magadan ferry? Was it to Vladivostok? In case you have a name of the company etc, I would be grateful. Thanks again, great write up! :-)

RoB 2011
Hi, just wondering if you've set off on your trip or are planning on going in 2011? I'm planning a trip myself for 2011 (with a 4x4) and am interested in finding out if anyone will be doing it at the same time. (I'm based in Sydney) Cheers

I'm planning a Europe trip next year too. Fly bike (Koeran Air) Melb to Seoul about 16th May 2011, (quote was $4.95au per Kg) plus Dangersous good cert/inspect (from Shenckers Spelling??). Ride across Koera, RORO to Vladivostok, then ride to Tynda, Yakutsk, via Ust Nera, Magadan. Then back to Yakutsk, over Vilyuisk trakt, Irkutsk, UB Mongolia, back to Russia Almty region, some 'Stans' (still in planning phase) need to meet wife in Turkey late Aug / early Sep 2011. More gentel touring Westen Euorpe. Anyone else ? |
+1 on checking out Colebatch. He's probably the godfather of this area.
Also look up Oisin Hughes' solo RTW trip 'backtobroke' over at ADV. A great story teller and adventurer. And there's also Austin Vince's 'Mondo Enduro' and 'Terra Circa'. |
Still a go?
