Mongolia in September
Hello all, I’m planning a trip to Mongolia during the first two weeks of September next year. I will be making a loop roughly from UB north to Khovsgol Lake, south to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and back to UB. Can anyone provide a little insight as to what to expect weather wise. I have looked at historical weather which seems milder than I expected, but I would appreciate any “boots on the ground” information anyone can provide.
Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Want a riding buddy?
I am planning on being in Mongolia at that time. You want a riding buddy? Where are you going to get the bike? Or are you riding your own from somewhere else? Let me know if there is any interest.

Hi Dave, I would be interested in meeting up and riding a portion of the route together. Right now I plan on landing in UB on or about 31 August and taking off about 15 September. When will you be there? As for a bike, I wish I could ride my own but the plan right now is to rent one from Cheke. For whatever reason, the thought of riding the same bikes the locals do really appeals to me.

September is great in Mongolia.
Mongolian weather is very unpredictable however, so while you can expect fairly mild temperatures (the winter is still weeks away), you should always be prepared for sub-zero nights. In 2010 I was at Khovsgol Lake; I think it was the 1st November. Daytime temperatures were just above freezing, nights colder. A couple of days later the winter came and it was -20 and a total white-out as far as roads were concerned. Good luck EO |
That is just the sort of intel I was looking for. Thank you very much!
