Mongolian Customs
 

Hi

I am due to enter Mongolia soon by car at Tashanta / Tsaagannuur.

I want to have all my fuel tanks full of diesel (e.g. 250L total). Will Mongolian customs (or Russian customs) want to confiscate / tax it???

Any experience of Mongolian customs would be helpful - are they very strict?

Hi Daniel: I've never heard of anyone being charged tax on fuel in tanks when entering Mongolia. Mongolian customs is generally pretty reasonable, unless you've got some sort of contraband (drugs, firearms, huge amounts of cash).

I can't speak for Russian customs, but I've crossed many borders around the world and never had anyone try to tax or confiscate fuel in the tank.

I've entered Mongolia a week ago, and had no problems with customs or any kind of Tax. The Russian side is a bit slow, but also, no problems.
