mongolian customs charges.
 

we are looking to fly 6bikes to ulaan baatar next spring. got a reasonable price from james cargo [£1480 for a gsa and bit less for a xt600]
does anybody know what the local charges would be, or know where i can find out? also what length of time to get them out of customs?
ive done a search on here with no luck.

planning is going well, looks like it will happen.
however im still having problems with the mongolian customs
side. we cant be the only ones to have done it.

Just do the Mongol Rally instead! They do all the paperwork for you. For six bikes you'd have to pay for three teams...and the hassle you'd save from not having to deal with Mongolian customs would be well worth it.

we've already looked into that. they only allow bikes under 125cc.
i can see the point, just not for us.

Don't do that. I arrived at the altai border this summer and they were holding team for up to 48 hours as, seemingly, the advernturers hadn't paid the dep[osit needed to import cars. An expensive way to get not alot - that was the general opinion.

If you just go youreself (ride BTW!) you have to pay a small customs charge and insurace for when you're in the country - all in it was about $50 buck I think.
