you will find bike shops across Russia. There were Yamaha dealers in Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Moscow, St Petersbug. The BMW dealers could order parts for bikes (2 -3 weeks) but those I visited had never sold one. These guys are based in St Pete, Moscow and Novosibirsk. There mechanics fixed the bike with a great deal of improvisation and recoursefulness in Novosibirsk. They have a web page www.nbsmotor.ru I would heed the advice of those who say prepare well before you go and not wing it like I did..if you can of course. You could get any parts orderred in if you had the time but the Visa constraints mean waiting for parts is difficult. I would take, spare clutch and throtle cables, a set of steering head bearings, engine gasket set and depending on the bike any unique oil seals. Take spare wheel bearings as well as rough roads can take there toll. If you cant find a bike shop, find a Russian bike rider, they are great will do heaps to help you out. cheers alec ps shustrik I cant read your post. |
thanks for the advice chaps, simmo iam going to take all the usual stuff i think ,piston rings, fork seals and oil ,clutch cables filters ,what about tyres is it carrying one as a spare ,trying to keep the weight down,i am beginning to thinking carrying a spare is essiential any advice thanks paul.

If you're having trouble fýndýng býke shops, the larger cities often have bike clubs who will know where to get parts. I know there are bike clubs in Saratov and Volgograd, all the local bikers i met are friendly and more than willing to help.

not exactly the topic, but I remember singing the "Katushka" in german words on a military base in Sibiria 2 am in the morning.
And I did not get shot. And it was great fun because the girlfriend of the comander in chief was singing the russian words at te same time Btw Äàíà, Øóñòðèê êòî çíàåò ñëîâè "Êàòþøêû"? Excuse my poor russian Goetz ------------------ ïóòü = öåëü |
If you mean words songs "Êàòþøà" in honour of which have named Russian flame thrower during the second world war this song In my opinion is known almost with each Russian. You about it? http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
