siberia

yes martin(navalarchitect) shit happens, but when some body looses their life for no reason whatsoever other than because some body didn't like the look of them is pretty sad.

i came across a lot of racism when i travelled to mongolia a few years back but funny most of it was in europe, both in west and east.Of course my traveling companion who was white had a very different experience from me.

Japanese news is saying that two local men, ages 20 and 21, were arrested. the 20 year old has admitted the crime.
According to the article, the culprits met the victim evening of the 21st and and came to rob him before dawn on the 22nd. They dragged him tent and all into the forest after murdering him, but a car came by close and frightened them, so they ran away without taking anything. Investigators are looking for other accomplices.

Same old sad story; a couple of village idiots decide they can pick up a few bucks by murdering someone before thinking about the fact that their chances of getting caught are close to 100%. Did these morons think no one in the village would notice the stolen items?

It sounds like the victim camped on the road between the highway and this village. I think the main lesson is to stay as far away from any inhabited point when camping (and hope the bears don't get you).

Or stay in village and ask for permission to set up tent in the neighbourhood.

But I don't think the local drunks or bad guys care if you have permission or not?

When I cycled the first time in Russia some years ago (north cape - murmansk -piter) I camped one night with other russian cyclists.
One of them also warned me not to camp near villages and then took a pistol out of his bag, showing it to me and said: not for rabbits!
