Old style Urals and sidecars - 12v or 6v?
Hi chaps
Does anyone perchance know if the old school Russian Ural bikes (with the sidecars) run a 12 volt or a 6 volt system? I want to know if heated clothing is going to be possible with one of these bikes. Thanks so much Ants |

Урал (мотоцикл) — Википедия and from the site. a quick look all look 12 volts Модели мотоциклов Урал about electrical looks like this: 12B = voltage система электрооборудования — 12 В, генератор 500 Вт hope this helps |
Ural electrics
I think the Ural 650s ran on 6 volts, certainly the earlier models up to 1979, the current 750 outfits (like mine) are 12 v
the problem you may find have with heated clothing is the low output of the original equipment alternators for both 6 and 12 volt unless you have a modern replacement like Japanese Nippon Denso (which I think is now a standard fitment on new Urals) I wouldn't bank on an OEM fitted alternator being able to give you enough output an excellent source of info is F2 Morotcycles run by David Angel - he would be someone to ask - see his page# Ural and Uralmoto electrical spare parts in the UK also guide to identify Ural motorcycles is helpful hope this helps Steffan aka loaferm8 |
