Looks like you have your Visa. In the London Embassy they check your papers as you stand there and check their computor for any previous visas/visits. Once they are happy they give you a payment slip which you take to another window with your money. The cashier gives you a receipt and a slip you need to collect your Passport ofrom the appropriate day.

If anything is wrong they usually reject the application before the asking for money stage.

Russia - it is a great land - in all ways. Sure, there are some less good aspects, but so has everywhere I have even been to.

I talked to a visa agency in Finland last week and they said that as of june 2007 HIV test isn't required.

I was asking about double or multi entry business visa and at first they said I couldn't get it, but after calling the consulate in Åbo (not helsinki for some reason...), they said that they could arrange it even though I have never had a russian visa before...

Yes, .. settled on a compromise between Visa starting before we're due to enter Russia and still leaving enough time to receive it without too much agro.

hello nostro here,i went to russia this year on my motorbike on a round the world trip.left the uk to ride to new york for the marathon in total took 4 months.russia was amazing i was worried to death for months before hand.i purchased a business visa,entered at estonia a place called narva.i was give a entrance permit for the bike for 2 weeks i didnt no till someone in russian told me.i returned back to the office and insisted on a longer permit witch was replaced for a 6 week permit after a 5 dollar tip.i then purchased insurance at the border cost about 35 english pounds.i was stopped about 4 times in russia and all documents checked never asked for money by the police all polite and nice.watch out for police with radar guns there everywere in the cities.once i hit siberia hardly seen an police and when i did there were friendly and very helpful and nice gold teeth.even escorted me throught the streets to my hotel it was amazing.russia is fantastic nice people very helpful warm kind caring.lost count of the families i stayed with.the truck stops are great for food very cheap and cheap digs as well.i stayed with the night wolves in kazan i meet one of them in the street took me back to there clubhouse they were amazing,i stayed with them for a weekend.also stayed withe iron tigers in vladivostock,if you need any info drop me a line loads of pics to.one more thing the roads are terrible my chain kept stretching and had to be repaired then repalced with one from a ural.anyway take a chance and go my tent came in handy many a night but the locals are great.watch the vodka its like rocket fuel good luck

one more thing,i didnt learn the cyrillic alphabet and at times struggled with signs,the lonely planet guide is good with all cities in russian and english the road to vladivostock once you hit siberia is easy its the federal road plenty of fuel stops but i filled up at regular intervals even if for a gallon and had a spare gallon on the bike in a container witch i used on several occasions good luck

Sorry about the thread hijack :oops2: I'm just getting a bit carried away.

The HIV certificate is required only for visas longer than 3 months ... i.e. 6 or 12 month multi entry visas. Even then it is only sometimes required. I didnt send on in with my last 12 month visa, and they didnt send my docs back. Just processed it. The year before they insisted I get one. I guess it depends who is doing the processing on the day.

I settled for a 3 months double entry business visa and will be following at the beginning the spring 08 Uk-Kaz tour found elsewhere in the NA forum.
