But it is not a problem to get a multi entry business visa, even if some agencies say so. Then just change the agency.

But business cost me about £600 all in, with Real Russia. Might have been an express service though.

Worth it also to have the flexibility IMHO. There's always the chance of a prang, mechanical problem, illness etc causing a delay.

Due to the 250 rule and visa restrictions for UK passport holders, I’d thought I’d resurrect this thread but drop the Iran option.
So..... is it a nice/interesting route around the top of the Caspian Sea or would people recommend the ferry?
Personally I’m not adverse to riding through flat, boring terrain and would, generally, rather be on my bike but if it’s dire then a ‘characterful’ ferry crossing might be more fun.

Dagestan, the region of Russia just across the border from Azerbaijan, is one of Russia's best kept secrets in my opinion, the city of Derbent is most certainly worthy of a visit. There is also the interesting Mongol, Buddhist republic of Kalmykia to the north, which is quirky and interesting. Astrakhan I would say is modestly interesting. East of there is nothing worth seeing, dull flat desert, a bad road and the unloveable city of Atyrau before you reach Beyneu and meet the road up from Aktau.

The real attraction on the eastern side of the Caspian is the desert of Mangustau with some interesting shrines and incredible landscapes. It would require a few days detour though, from Aktau to Zhanaozen and out into the desert.

I have fond memories of Atyrau, my first stop in Kazakhstan. Had a few beers and some food in a lovely little bar on the riverbanks, Some very pretty girls about too, it wasn't at all what I was expecting!

Now the 400 mile day I rode NE to Aktobe is another story. Brutal and relentlessly falling to bits, though I expect after four years it's been renewed.
