I actually had an amazing time on the BAM. I think we all did. For those of you know know Ghengis knows he likes to dish it out. Even out of the blue, almost a year later. The shit talking on the trail was all pretty fun and friendly. I was pretty surprised to click on this thread and see all the poo thrown my way.
I guess I didn't realize he was so relieved to stop traveling with me. I must have been the reason he was so slow. :oops2:

(but if you want trouble free take a DRZ:innocent:)

I passed 100,000 km this week. She will be ridden hard for the next 100,000.

Clearly, Noah has done well. (haven't read his whole report), he did ALL KTM homework and takes good care of the bike. An expert by now I'd guess.
IIRC, his bike was a theft recovery, needed work. A very brave man!

Yea, the LWR film reveals quite few "truths" that are often missing in written Reports. Like Ewan's crying scenes, like the revelation that the crap Russian Minsk was the better bike than the GS. (amazed that one got past the Editors) A good documentary needs to show the UPS and DOWNS. When it's all UPS ... I don't buy it. It's never all UPS! bier

(PS: The DRZ would be my choice too ... but I'm stuck with a DR650 for now, it'll do)

My 2010 690 was stolen. It was recovered after I bought my 2008 690. I had spend 2 weeks prepping the 2008 for the journey when they found my old one. Both had about 25,000 km. One had been through Africa with the PO and had many problems. The other had been in the hand of pikeys for a few weeks and we didn't know what it had been through. I had already changed over documents and emotionally moved on from the stolen one. If you read the PO's thread on ADV (25,000 km with luke and nick) you would never buy a 690 or an F800gs. The fact that these 2 had relatively no technical knowledge and the known failure modes were yet to be discovered.. they had problems. Once sorted, this same 690 has been really great. Someone on my tread on ADV said "Fishfund convinced me not to buy a 690, and you changed my mind.. with the same bike." The smallest problem can end a trip if no one can fix it. The largest problem can be just part of the story you tell your grand kids. :mchappy:

So now that we have fully hijacked this thread.. back to shipping bikes to Asia doh

Your RTW stories are far more interesting (and educational) than any shipping thread!

But that shared container deal DOES sound like a really good deal! I'm amazed no one in the USA has jumped on that one!
Ride On! Ride Safe!
