Shipping from Vlad/Magadan to South Korea and onwards to Australia

Hi All

I am driving my Landrover back from Scotland to Australia leaving 1st June 2012 and taking approx 3 months. We will be going through Russia Siberia Mongolia. Depending on the route we take I am interested if anyone can offer advice about shipping out of Eastern Russia onwards to South Korea. How easy is it to organise. Can I turn it around in a few days or does it need organising in advance. Which is more complicated Vlad or Magadan. Time frame etc. Also any shipping contacts in South Korea to get the vehicle back to Australia

I would really appreciate any input

Thanks

Callum

Magadan would be the more problematic of the two for you.
Almost all shipping from Magadan is to other Russian ports. So you could get it containered to Vlad fairly easily. Boats leave regularly - every few days. Sailing time to Vlad is about 7 days depending on other stops on the way.
Turn up and wait a few days should be no real problem. We waited about 4 days to ship our bikes. We got friendly with a couple of Moscow guys in a Vaz (sort of minibus type vehicle). They waited about a week for what they wanted

Vlad is a major shipping port and you should be able to find boats going further afield from there, and more frequently.

Nearby to Vlad there is a Ro-Ro ferry from Zurabino (excuse spelling at this hour, here!) to South Korea.

I believe South Korea is pretty fierce for Customs Duty if you use their roads.

There are various Shipping Lines and Agencies. We used 'Transfes' to ship our bikes between Magadan and Vlad. Their contact details are on Hubb and probably more easily found via Google. All their guys spoke enough English.

I'm led to believe the Zarubino route ceased at some point this year... The Ro-Ro ferry now only leaves from Vladivostok, instead of from "down the road"...

The DBS ferry leaves from Vladivostok - arrives on Monday and leaves on a Wednesday BUT gets completely sold out in summer so book in advance.

Yuri Melnikov in Vladivostok can assist with shipping - top guy

contact him ymelnik [at] links-ltd [dot] com

There were some recent rumours though that even this ferry route may be in danger as it was making a loss on the Vlad/South Korea route.

Interesting in this to.

for what reason would you ship to Korea then onto Aus? Can you not get it containered straight to Aus? We will be doing this in 2013. Still not got my head around shipping.

Whilst no expert on Vlad shipping I believe that if you container your bike in Vlad it will be taken by a feeder vessel to South Korea where it will be shipped onto a major shipping line.

Nothing to stop you putting the bike in a container in Vlad though - I was just advising about the ferry to South Korea where it may be easier to ship to Oz.

Ro/Ro to Australia from Korea

Using Ro/Ro ,, you save in box cost , simple logistics ,, easy lashing and securing on board ,, always cheaper.

Hi guys! How did you get on? I'm also about to set off on my big adventure and like you will be driving from the UK through to Russia, Mongolia, and onto Vladivostok for shipping to Australia. I hope to be in Vladivostok for September 2012 and am looking to arrange the shipping.
If there at the same time we could share a container? Or if not I'd be grateful if you could forward any shipping info you have.

Thanks

J
