We have our visa and GBAO from Viena, last week. Indeed, on that stamp, there is no Roshtqala, despite of the fact that we asked this on our visa application form.
Anyway, on 25 July we arrive to Bishkek and we'll go straightly to Tajikistan.. we'll see there how is with this permit. Cristian / Bob |
Wouldn't sweat it. I and many others have done it without being asked for permits. Even if they stop you, nothing is set in stone in Tajikistan. Worst case do it from the Pamir highway side.

Hi,
We rode with no problems via Bartang and from Khorog to Kargush and even further via Zorkul to Shaimak and Murghab. No problem with GBAO. We had problems with Zorkul permit. The guards at Kargush told us that the permit we have is only for Zorkul, but we need an additional border permit... PECTA in Khorog didn't tell us about some other permit. We managed to cross with "something"... Cristian / Bob |
i just rode the bartang and then south to khorog and then north to dushanbe via the wakan without an issue or being asked for the GBAO
but one thing that some people may not realize is there is a semi collapsed bridge about 150km's north of Khorog that at the moment is allowing motorcycles and cars over but not trucks (as of August 18th), but heavy equipment is being moved into the area to make a repair so make sure you ask local enforcement if you can still pass otherwise you will need to find another way around for the moment, it means a huge detour when i went over welders were working on the bridge, and trucks were lined up both sides waypoint 38.3025803,71.3462298 approximately |
I forgot to tell you, for those who want to go to Shaimak via Zorkul, at Jarty Gumbez there is the best accommodation from Pamir (central heating system, hot pool, pool table, etc). There is in fact a hunting lodge where the President goes from time to time.

The bridge north of Khorog is the bridge over the Vanch river, there is no detour, it is the only way to Khorog, besides you take the Fergana valley over Osh and then Murghab. I hope it is fixed now, the trucks were already waiting a week, when we passed on august 9th.

it wasn't fixed when i went over it on the 22nd
