Southern Route Mongolia

I am looking to ride the southern route through Mongolia as i hear it is the easiest. Can someone tell me the main towns i would go through so i can plot the route on the map?

Olgii - Khovd - Altai - Bayanhongoor - UB

I am not sure if it is the easiest anymore.

Some parts after Altai to UB are still not paved and the middle route from Altai is mostly paved ( except the part Altai - Uliastai and 60km to Telmen )

Southern route is the most boring.

What's a more interesting route then? Happy to do a bit of offroad though not too extreme.

Personally I like better from Altai up to Uliastay, and Tosontsengel to Khrakhorin ( middle route )

Thanks for this timely info gents, I am looking to go along the top from Ulaanbaataar heading west up towards UVS lake etc.

Have tagged that thread for a good read. :thumbup1:

Direction Uvs lake is a lot of fun 2up.

DEpends where you drive.

From Uliastay there might be a newer road to Ulaangom, but I dont know how good it is.

From Ulaangom south to Olgii or Tashanta you will have a lot of fun, maybe you need Truck for some rivers.
