Southern Siberia/Altai Border Permits?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody knows about the current state of border permits within Southern Siberia? I'm looking at taking an offroad route starting in Gorno-Altaisk and ending in Irkutsk. I understand that there is a checkpoint in Mondy and that I may also need to collect an Altai permit in Gorno-Altaisk. Is that right? Are there any other necessary papers? I will also skirt a little bit in to Tuva (passing near Sug-Aksy and Ak-Dovurak). Other than that I shouldn't be hitting any major towns. Can anyone recommend a good company to deal with any necessary paperwork? I was dealing with one a while ago and then they went cold on me saying they couldn't help any more for whatever reason... I understand most/all need you to purchase some additional services but as it's an independent trip and I've got my visa sorted, all I need is the paperwork. I've heard you can also just fax the necessary paperwork ahead (such as for Mondy border) which I've got the form for - is this effective? Thanks for your input! Kind regards, Matt Traver |
Technically you need two border permits to get to Mugur Aksy in Tuva. One for the Altai border zone and one for the Tuva border zone.
Procedure is here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...1-2#post412431 There is no road or Track from Tuva to Mondy ... unless you go thru Mongolia or Kansk. |
Hey,
Thanks for the reply and info. I've heard just recently that border permits for Buryatia and Tuva may be 'very tricky' to get at the minute for political reasons... is that true? A bit of a concern if so... Cheers |
