Stan border crossing

Hi.

Does anyone know, if you will get problems, if you are going to cross any border in the Stan country, with a motorcycle that is not registered in your own name ?

Best regards Per

You will have problems long before you reach any ...stan country. If you go outside the Schengen+ border with a vehicle whose registration does not name you as owner or permitted user, you will need to show a notarized authorization to use it (what they call poder in South America) - the kind of paper you would e.g. get from your bank if you drive your leased car into Morocco or Turkey.

Otherwise what's to say it isn't a stolen vehicle?

(EDIT: Even inside Schengen you are technically supposed to have some paperwork like that if you are outside your own country and driving the vehicle of a person who is not in the vehicle with you. Just that there are no border checks and police don't check it unless they have a reason to be suspicious.)

Thanks.

I would like to buy a motorcycle in Germany "crf 1000-1100". Its 1/2 price than buying it in Denmark.

IMC Motorclub Flensburg will be the holder of the motorcycle and could stand on the registration as user.

Is that OK ?.

I know in Schengen it is ok.

How do you prove to a border guard outside Schengen that you did not just steal the bike from the club's warehouse?

Maybe you can get a notarized authorization where the club officially allows you to drive the bike outside the country. Maybe the first border guard accepts it as they have seen a similar one before. Maybe the next border guard thinks it is a forgery and you spend three days in a cell while your embassy confirms that the paper is valid.

Maybe the paper gets wet and dissolves while you are half way around the world.

Don't try to outsmart the tax man. :)

Declare yourself as a citizen of Germany (and sign in there) and register it in your name.

Otherwise you definitely need the power of attorney (Notarius) document to cross borders

Dear Per,

You can buy a motorcycle in Germany and get a export registration. That costs money but then you have the right papers and insurance for many countries.
The question is what you gone do after the trip?
Do you want to import it to Denmark? That would be very expensive. Possibly more expensive than buying a bike in Denmark. Do you plan to drive it long time in Denmark on a german registration? That´s prohibited.
When you can get a rental agreement on paper from the german owner then it could be oke.

I would like to drive the motorcycle for 4 months and then sell it again in Germany.

It cost +- 10.000 Euro in Gemany and in Denmark 20.000 Euro. If I get the Motorcycle stolen it is half price. Cant get full insurance outside EU.

It is not allowed to drive a German Bike in Denmark if you are a Dane. So of course i will not do that.

Best regards Per
