'stans : climate? When to go?
Allright, my 4 months in EU/RUS/... have just finished, so time to start thinking and planning the next trip... ;-)
I set my radar on the 'Stans with possible end stop in India. I can take 3 months off from work for doing this, so my idea is to go from Belgium to India in 2013 through ALL the 'stans. Why to stop in India? for the cheaper option of sending myself and the bike back home. But I'm always open for anything else... still trying to figure out where and when to go. BUT, there used to be a topic/menu about weather and stuff and I can't seem to find it anymore, so my question is when to go to the 'stans? I don't like rain, anything else is fine. ;-) |
We did Kaz, Uz, Tadj, Kyg from 15 May through to 23 June.
We didn't have a lot of rain, but the condtions went from snow at 0°C through to hot 40°C. We were also told that the winter was long this year in the Pamir. |
Allright, thx!
So if I leave here end of april I should be fine... ;-) |
Craig,
When did you cross the Pamirs? Looking for the earliest opportunity next year which I think would be early May. cheers, G |
It was late May and early June. The only really cold spots we had was on mountain passes above 4000m. We did the border crossing on the day after Ak Baital and weather was much better.
The North Road out Dushanbe had closed on and off during the time we were there also. We rode south through Kylob. Some the high mountains in Kyg where also a little cool but not too bad. I think it depends on the year though as I said everyone said it was late winter. I think Colebatch went the same time of year and had better weather than we did. |
Thanks for the info, best play it by ear then!

Also unless it is really pissing down the road is pretty easy on the direct route from Khorog to Murghab is pretty easy riding. No real steep bits.

Thanks, G |
Is it also an option to leave EU end of august, so half sept in Turkey and then heading East?
I was thinking like 15 aug to 15 nov as this would suit me far better than in the spring... |
