Stans Visas in Turkey
Hi
I’m trying to get the most up to date info I can on obtaining ‘Stans’ visas in Turkey. (UK passport) Much as I would like to have all the visas in my passport before I leave the UK in April it seems unlikely this will happen. From my research it would appear you can (or could) get the Taji one in Ankara along with a GABO permit. Any idea of cost? And in Istanbul you can get the Kaz, Kirg, and Uzbek, any idea on cost and length of time or if this too can be done in Ankara. Then there is the tricky Turkmen one, a transit one would suit me, don't really want to shell out for a guide and tour. So if I have my Iran (I’m in the process of application now) and Uzeb visas already I can apply for a Turkmen transit one right? But where, in Turkey? I know this has been discussed before but some up to date info and first hand experience would be much appreciated. Just trying to make a damp grey Sunday productive Cheers Flid |
You can get the UZ, Tajik with GBAO, and Kyr visas in Ankara in two days if you apply properly.
The Kyr and UZ embassies are near to each other, and so are their desired banks. The Tajik one is quite pleasant. The Consulate is a most warm and welcoming man. While waiting you can visit the extraordinary 'Anatolian Civilizations' museum which has an amazing collection and is also politically significant - Ataturk's desire to show that whatever the religion/ethnicity/period Turkey hosted incredible civilizations. Istanbul is hard to compete with but it's alot cheaper to stay and easier to facilitate in Istanbul. The downside, if there is one, the high cost of petrol, the necessity of the Trabzon ferry . . . |

We got taj & gbao permit same day & it was $120 if I remember correctly. We also got Uzbekistan but that took a week and was about $480 for both of us. This was July 2012 Istanbul, fantastic place to linger especially for the company ;)

Does anybody know of a good campsite in Istanbul or ankara to stay at? I understand the Istanbul one closed down but there is one close to the embassies in Ankara. We are currently in Bosnia/Serbia and heading that way. Looking to pick up our Stan Visas at one or both of these cities.
Also estimated times of application and can you get away with supplying passport copies with some? Cheers, G |

www.carivanistan.com For UZB Visa in Ankara: July 2012: Filled out online application form, printed it and lodged on monday along with 2 photos and copy of passport, collected Friday, passport not kept by embassy. Fee paid to bank 10 minute walk away return with receipt and hey presto. $80 without LOI for British national KAZ visa in Ankara: July 2012: 3 days processing time $30 paid to bank 10 minute walk. Wanted to keep our passport but we needed them so they just took a copy. Looks like we may be able to get all ours done within a week at Ankara if we plan it properly. If anyone is around for a bier later this month, let us know :thumbup1: G |
For info on Ankara applied on Monday 25th March:
Tajik Visa is $54 USD for 45 days/double entry and we had it returned in less than 24 hours. We didn't ask about the GBAO permit as Caravanistan suggested it was no longer possible, but I may well go back and ask as we are only 10km away. I dont know why I didn't at the time (doh!). Kaz Visa is $30 USD 1 month/single. Said we had to wait till Friday Uzbek Visa $80 USD 1 month/single. said Friday also. Kaz and Tajik are close to each other, UZB is about 2-3Km away. All accepted colour Passport copies (we supplied) so we kept our Passports and all spoke good/excellent English. G |
I got all of my Stan visas in Ankara, 6 visas in 4 days in 2011
It helped that my friend there is the austrian vice consul, and he helped to send in the applications in advance, the 2 hardest ones to deal with were azerbaijan, & oddly enough, kazakhstan. I dunno why the one guy paid 450 usd for a tajik visa? mine with pamir permit was less than 100 bucks. also, the trabzon ferry isnt needed anymore, as the border from georgia to russia is now open, I crossed it last summer Doug |
Also from Caravanistan:
Tajikistan Address: Yeni Baglar cad, Billur sok. No: 16, Senlikkoy may, Florya, Istanbul Opening hours: 8am to 5:30pm. March 2013: I just walked in and got a visa for 45 days and the GBAO at the same time. $25 each so a total of $50. Filled in the paperwork when I got there. It’s the Consul himself who issues the visa, speaks fluent english and the process was completely straightforward. This new consulate just opened last year. Uzbekistan Sehit Halil Ibrahim Caddesi, No 23 Istinye +90-212-323-20-37 Opening hours: 9-12am and 3-5pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On the spot delivery with LOI, without LOI takes 4 days. Same-day delivery for 30$ extra if you don’t have the LOI. (worth every cent as for example Stantours charges 40$ + transfer fee for a LOI and it takes 2 wks to get one) So basically you can get both those visas in one day if you struggle a little. Cheers, John |
Thanks for all the advice. I have my Kaz and Rus visa now and will get the rest in Turkey. Although it lacks peace of mind by not leaving with them in my passport it will save money and be much easier it appears to do it later and I will have a better idea of exact dates then too.
£3 weeks today and I'm off Thanks again for the info, now what else is on the list?.......... |
