sounds like DOug has posted a way for you to try getting out of it. Hopefully still works. Play on the "Russian customs guys are much better than Kazakh customs guys" line and stress that you dont blame them (Russian guys) and you should be ok.
Edit: maybe even stress the truth ... that its your fault, and mistakenly disposed of the import permit. |
we got out just yesterday. the "blame it on the Kazakh customs" worked.
Thank you for your help! |
One person with two vehicles? (Car + Moto)
Hey Guys,
I am familiar with how the temp import system works for Russia and Mongolia when you are travelling on/in a single vehicle. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of one person taking two vehicles in as a temp import? For example a car with a motorbike strapped to the back/on a trailer. Can this still be done as a temp import or would I be entering the realms of a Carnet? Thanks in advance for any help, Matty |
I just found this very useful website for the Federal Customs Service of Russia that includes the Temporary Import Permit Form (Passenger Customs Declaration Form) in English as well as English instructions on how to complete the form.
Import Permit in English Instructions on how to complete the form I think I'll complete at least one form in advance to minimise delays at the border. |
Hi Matty,
I don't have any direct, first-hand experience, but I'll tell you what I know, for what it is worth: 1) there is a post here on the HUBB from a couple years ago about a guy trying to enter Russia with a vehicle either towing a moto or mounted on the back, etc., and IIRC he had a problem with the second vehicle; and 2) also a couple of years ago I was thinking about bringing in a second bike via temp import, and I happened to be at the border and asked the customs agent if it would be possible. They said that it was not possible to bring in two vehicles with temp import. That said, I"ve also read ride reports about Poles, etc. that bring in a van full of bikes on their way to wherever, and they have apparently gotten in. So...you might want to track down the Poles (ride reports on ADVRider) and see what they have to say. |
