TIP for Tajikistan: 15 days ?
Hi,
I kind of remember that Taj would only issue 15-days import permits. Last time I was there I didn't mind but this year I may stay longer. Anybody can shed some light on this ? Thanks, Laurent |
Have a search on this forum; there was someone a few years ago who managed to extend the permit in Dushanbe. From memory it was quite a simple process, though you would probably need a translator if you don't speak Russian / Persian.

Thanks, so I was wondering if the rule had changed, and if it's actually enforced. Then it might be easier to do a round-trip to Kyrg to renew my permit rather than drive all the way to Dushanbe, if I'm in GBAO (provided I've got a double-entry Taj visa).
Now about the GBAO permit, does it expire with the visa or is it limited in duration ? Laurent |
GBAO is just a stamp. You can stay without any problems until visa expire. Ask custom on the border for longer temp import permit. You will get it. On Pamir customs is easy so even if... |
Hey Sambor,
thanks, I'm sure it'll be OK. I'll post here how it went. You Russian-speaking guys manage to work your way around bureaucracy with ease, whereas for us it takes a lot longer. Last time we got caught in a forbidden border zone, and at the end of the day we were invited for lunch by the Tadjik soldiers, but maybe I'm pushing my luck. I guess it's the same for non-French-speaking guys in Western Africa : it's got a bad reputation for unpleasant border crossings but I've never had problems small-talking my way through the hurdles.
