You're welcome!
There are small villages along the route and if you ask around for a "gostinitsa" you'll be pointed to somebody's house that doubles as the local hotel. Around $5-$7/night, but don't expect much more than a bed and a decent meal. As the Lonely Planet puts it "the only stars you'll see are the ones on the way to the latrine". About Mongolia, I just did an east-west crossing and crossed at the new NW border (Tsaaganuur/Tashanta) and traveled alone with no GPS. Just map and compass. It works good enough. Only got lost for a day and a half in the Gobi. Cary extra water if you will go down there.
