Turkmenistan - Kazakhstan with motorbike

Hello,

In few days I want to go from Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan with the motorbike crossing border at Garabogaz. This seems to be the most challenging part of my trip so I want to be well prepared. I already read that roads are bad, but would be great if someone could be more specific.

- Is there any deep sand? If yes, for how long?
- I guess there are no rivers to cross?
- Where are gas stations?
- Bekdash to Zhanaozen easily possible for inexperienced guy on a R 1200GS within one day?
- Recommendations for places to stay are most welcome!

Thanks a lot!
Richard

I sent you a pm, as I am slightly behind me but we may catch up if visa schedules fit.

Hi Julian,

Looks like I am not yet allowed to write PMs...

"In a few days" maybe were not the right words. My Transit visa for Turkmenistan starts 7th of July. According to visa I have to enter at Howdan (not even 100% sure where this is) and exit at Garanogaz. I'm currently in Baku.

Would have been great to get some company. But maybe you can meet up with Lea from Got3Go (check on Facebook).

Let me know how it went!

No, but it can get dusty. It's dried, washed out mud between close to the turning for the Temir Baba shrine (south of Kendirli) and Bekdash. It was bone-shaking stuff in June 2014.

- I guess there are no rivers to cross?

Nope

- Where are gas stations?

Zhanaozen and Bekdash

No idea really, I'm not a biker but I would say it's perfectly doable if you take care.

- Recommendations for places to stay are most welcome!

Can't help there either as I stayed with locals, or camped. Take plenty of water!

Dear EurasiaOverland,

Thanks a lot for the info. Very helpful! And comforting to know that there is no deep sand. I would not really have a clue how to drive on that.

Richard
