Ulan Bator to Europe
Hi fellow overlanders,
I am looking into sending my bike to Ulan Bator by plane, and start the journey back to Europe. The question is, what is a realistic timeframe for this? I would rather go south east of Afghanistan than North, but will consider north if I have a time limit. Thanks ahead. Haakon |
Anything from 3 weeks to 3 months ... depending on how much time you WANT to take and what route you want to take, how much you want to do on highways and how much you want to do n back roads and how much you want to do off road.
And how much you like to ride ... 6 hours a day, 10 hours a day. 120 km/h or 40 km/h |
I'm planning on 4 months for the same trip Haakon.

Hi Colebatch, thanks for your answer. How long does it take you to drive from Ulan Bator to the border of Kasakhstan, must be about 1500/1600 km, and is there a lot to do in between, except driving I mean :-)
I know I know to litle right now, but are there highways going towards Kasakhstan? |
And Belle, when are you planing to go?

Most people take about a week to do the 2000 km in Mongolia, slower riders can take 2 weeks, quicker riders 3-4 days. And another 2-3 days to get to the Kazakhstan border. Then another 2-3 days to get to Almaty. |
Hi Haakon,
I'm planning on arriving in UB at the beginning of May, spending a bit of time there on various stuff, then riding back to London via Turkey over the next few months, hopefully arriving still alive and in full working order by September. Not sure what bike I'll be on yet though - could be my C90, might be a Soviet contraption, could be a Yammie dirt bike. All depends on how I decide to get the bike there as I will be in China anyway and so will have to meet it in UB. Well, that's the plan anyway. Well, I say plan....:thumbup1: |
