Update on road to Omalo

Hi
Does anyone have an update on the road condition for road to Omalo, Georgia. Am traveling on quite heavy packed R1200GS (pillion and luggage). Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Omalo road is repaired and passable now that the surface is dry. There are a few soft spots on the recently repaired stretch of road which will test your driving given the weight of your bike. If it rains, it will become a challenge. Watch the weather!

Hi, I am planning on riding through Georgia next year, around May time.

I have been considering a route from Batumi around the north-west before getting to Tbilisi, as follows...

Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Mazeri and Ambrolauri, shown on Google maps here...

Are these roads suitable for a road bike? I will also be exiting over the old Military Road from Tbilisi to Vladikavkaz; is that do-able on a road bike? I can be flexible on tyre choice but will be riding from the UK and back so need something pretty tarmac friendly.

Hello!

I rode from Vladikavkaz to Tbilisi to Batumi last July (2018).

If tuo stay on main roads, by road bike is not problem. After border (Vladikavkaz) Georgian Military road is couple kilometers ”on under construction” but not bad.

Tbilisi to Batumi....stay on road ”Kutasi”, Batumi-Akhaltsikhe is only 160 km, but takes 5 hours....not suitable for road bike, but nice for adventure bike.:thumbup1::thumbup1:
