Video camera on the bike in Russia?
Hello folks!
I am planning to ride thru Russia with a video camera conected (like GoPro or simular)to me or the bike and film the scenery and my self during the riding. My question is, can I get in to trouble with the police or any laws if do filming during my riding in Russia?:confused1: Regards HDAJ |
Don't video, or take photos, near military installations, Customs and other Border offices, Government offices or Police Stations.
Otherwise not a problem. I usually enquiringly raise my camera a little to check the subject is happy with me taking a picture including him close by, particularly if he is wearing any type of uniform. Usually they nod their agreement. Russians love having their photo taken - even insisting you do it even though they will never see the result! |
Thank you Tony P for your info!!:thumbup1:
Do they have signs in foto restricted areas? I am usually very careful about taking photos or videos in those areas you mentioned. I crossed the border Kirkenes Norway - Murmansk -Ivalo Finland last summer and I can not remember if they had photo prohibition signs there. Regards HDAJ |
There is usually a "no photo" sign at Immigration and Customs areas at airports and road borders.
In cities, some shops and shopping malls (posh ones!) have them also. If in doubt ask someone in uniform - even if only a private security guy. Or wait to be told not to - you won't get locked up! (subject to them not being of active military bases) But generally, out and about, take pictures anywhere as you would in Western European countries, unless close to military bases and (possibly) airports - civillian and military. Even the Roads Police will not be in the slightest bit interested in you filming on the move with one or even both hands. Unless, that is, you are exceeding a speed limit or go over a continuous white line - for which they will threaten the full might of the Law until you 'suggest' making a donation to the 'Staff Christmas Party'. !! |

That's true. August 2009 while exiting Russia direction Finland: I wanted to take a pic of my motorcycle in line behind some cars with border station on the background, so I simulated to clean my camera's lens while snapping. A Russian border officer spotted me, came close and simply told me "please put your camera away immediately", then he returned to his collegues that were chatting some meters away. But that's all he did. |
