Vitim Bridge - western BAM road
 

Two separate riders have reported being told this summer that the Vitim River bridge is to be dismantled to recover the metal.

Personally I would be surprised. There is so much scrap metal lying around on the ground all over Russia that there must be easier and safer opportunities than this.

The nearby rail bridge is heavily guarded with armed military so the only means of crossing would then be to put your bike on a train.

Anyone wanting to do the bridge, part of the western BAM, might like to bring their plans forward, just in case.

Drats, looks like I'll never get to cross it then...

Somehow I'm more relieved than disappointed!

Can you use your influence and have a chat with Mr Putin so that it gets removed earliest in 2014? The latest version (I'm already in double figures... :() of the "plan" is ride Europe to Mongolia via the Stans in 2012 and ride UB to UB via BAM et al (as discussed in http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...a-2012-a-59454 ) in 2013.

No takers for my record I note (or the 1200GSA) !!

I wish Staffan will hold for very long his record with no other crazy Nordic trying to beat it!

To understand the achievement (and the videos), the picture after your 42 min record report (really good story!) is definitely a MUST...

I'd be happy to compete for the slowest crossing without bike in the "crawling with sh*t in my pants" category... I'm sure it'd be a record tough to beat!:D

I might be stuffed then with a 4x4 in August/September 2013 :(
