Wendy Choi? + others?

Hi

Are there any other shippers in South Korea in that I've sent a few emails and not been replied to for a couple of weeks which leaves me with no exit out of S Korea and thus may mean a change of route (might have to do Russia twice!)...

Anybody know of any other shippers in Korea? , as I don't want to get there and be told that there is no escape.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

We used these people. We didn't ship from South korea though, we shipped TO south Korea from Sydney. I'm sure they will be able to help though. they were very efficient.

Hello!

I'm trying to work out the same thing. I did get a reply from Wendy, see below.

I've also been emailing gab {AATT} inscargo {DOTT} co {DOOT} kr, but I'm struggling to explain what I want so I haven't got much information so far.

We'll be in Korea around August 22nd after the central asia - mongolia - vlad thing. When will you be there?

I'd be very interested to hear anything you can find out

Cheers,
Al

Dear Alistair Jan.29.2009

Good day

Thanks for your inquiry.
Yes i can help you to arrange it from ICN(INCHEON AIRPORT) to USA OR CANADA
Last year the approx air freight was ABT USD3000-USD4000(ALL IN RATE)
It include trucking charge from SOK CHO port to ICN airport
& packing charge in korea & air freight & custom clearance charge & etc

(Base on cargo's size and fuel sur_charge(airline's changeable rate base on current fuel rate))
Kindly note.

If you have any question, please let me know

Thanks and best regards
Wendy.choi/aero int'l/sel

---------------------------------------------

It is rate for one motocycle.

And one more,,,
even the weight is ABT 350kg,,,but chargeable weight can heavier than your expected
I mean, if your motocycles' size is 250x120x80(the volume weight is 400kg)
and airline will charge base on 400kg(they will charge base on heavier weight/gross weight or volume)
Also to arrange the motocycle via airplane or vessel, it must packed.
So the size should much bigger than your expecting.
Kindly note

----------------------------------------------------------

1. Base on your nationality & origin of international driving licence,
you can drive it or not..
If your nationality is UK, you can drive it after clear the customs in korea

2. If you provide the size in advance, i will inform it to crating company.
But even though you have no specific size, there is no problem.
It will be done by wooden material which was fumigated.
Because US & CANDADA customs ask to all shipment which is crated by wooden.

3. If i have your expected arrival date, it is more easy to prepare the documents and shipping procedure.
But never mind, i can handle your motocycle even you didn't mention exact arrival time.
Without your schedule, i can arrange it but i guess it takes a little more time.

4. Wherever you want, there is no problem..
It's up to your decision. Then i will follow your instruction.

Nah I've not gotten any response out of any shipping companies bar UK ones which seem to take forever to respond to me.

I think this trip is off tbh , in that my £10000 budget is suddenly looking like its not enough, and I don't have any more....

And I've been told I can't torch the bike in Russia either as they won't let you leave.

I spent MONTHS researching options, comparative costs, and risks that could drive up the costs.
I ended up finding Wendy by chance in 2007 and used her. She delivered on her quote in terms of time and money.

There might be others out there that may quote you cheaper prices, BUT if things don't work out...your costs go usp very quickly...one night in Vlad will run $100...customs paperwork fines, and other additional costs by your cheap shipper, etc.

I'm all about adventure, but when dealing with Russians customs....freight forwarders(in Vlad) who don't have experience handling motorcycles...that's not the excitement I'm looking for;)

Nah the thing is I don't want to deal with shipping in Russia as a couple of guys I know managed to ship from Magadan to Moscow for under $1000 US, but I don't know about you but when $1500 is eaten up by Visas , $5000 by a shipping leg its an enourmous amount of money to have to spent before you've even taken the first step.

I'm as cheap as they come...BUT lets be realistic.
You're comparing apples and oranges.
  • Comparing shipping within Russia compared to international is completely different.
  • Shipping within Russian can be downright cheap...depending on how its shipped.
  • ALSO do you know the guys personally? AND did they do it since 2005? Was it by air?
Relative to the visa prices...they are what they are...BUT if you've gotten them ahead of time, you might have over spent. Prices for visas vary...and sometimes depend on the country you acquire them in AND the citizenship of the individual. Example: A multiple entry Russian business visa ran me $125USD in Uzbekistan and I got it the same day. The LOI ran me about $75? I think from StanTours. If I tried to acquire it in other cities, the cost might have been lower, BUT I might have had to spend a few extra days waiting for them to process my request.

Either way...good luck on your trip however it hashes out.

Does anybody actually have her telephone number? , I'm going to give her a call Sunday evening (should be day time in Korea by then) , as I think I'm being ignored and this is make or break , if I can't go this route I'll scrub the entire trip and go Africa instead, which is a visa hassle but doesn't involve such insane costs.

Thats excellent mate, sayy , out of curiousity what is your intended route for the Eurasian bit? ,

I was intending to go out with 2 wingmen , they have decided not to come.

A acquaintance was intending to go out also with 2 wingmen , they decided not to come.

Now I'm joining forces with him , to ride via Turkey and the Stans with a foray into Mongolia to get to Vladivostok (can't afford the second leg to Uashia time or money wise).

My weapon of choice was an Africa twin but its now an XT600E him on a 420cc bored out DR350.
