Interesting idea!

As far as I was able to check at our local mongolian embassy few weeks ago, there are only 2 crossings for foreigners between Russia and Mongolia: Kyahta (under Ulaan Ude on the north)) and newly open Tashanta in the western part of the country.

Scott my confirm it or give us new information.

Hello Adrian and Vlada: Adrian, the border crossing at Hankh is NOT open to foreigners, only to Mongolians and Russians. Some large tour groups have made special arrangements to do it ($$), but it is normally not possible.

Only the far-west border crossing at Tsagaan Nuur/Tashanta, the north main road from Ulaan Ude and a far east border crossing are open to foreigners between Mongolia and Russia.
