What would you have done different in Mongolia?

The title pretty much says it all. What do you wish you’d have known? What do you wish you’d have better prepared for? Anything you wish you’d have seen? I will be riding through Mongolia, likely solo, from late August to mid September 2018. Renting a bike from Cheke, camping much of the way. I’d like to hear, from people who have been there, what do you wish would have gone different on your trip?

A lighter motorbike I could lift myself more easily. I was solo as well, and my KLR was not fun to lift, especially one day when I had to do it 6 times. I tried some good tracks - part of Colebatch's route - which was amazing but in some places I feared going down again.

I can feel your pain. At home I ride a 1200 GS and I have had bad days with multiple drops. It’s amazing how exhausted you get wrestling a bike that big all day. Luckily I’ll be renting a smaller bike over there, should add to the fun.

Nothing, it was perfect! I even loved the R100GS I was riding, but I had two friends with me. So it took only seconds after I crashed, that my bike was upright again. And we fell much more often than you did :-)

I wish I had taken some hot chilli sauce to reduce the taste of the local food.
