I crossed Kaz at right angles to your route last week... I went from Uralsk to Shymkent. I was camping each night with the main challenge being lack of shelter from the wind. I found the best places were in small dry river valleys... out of the wind and screened from the noise of late night traffic.

It was best to find a metalled side road as a starter to get away from the heavy traffic. I explored a few unsurfaced side tracks off the main road but the sand got deep quickly and my KTM was fully loaded!!

I camped next to a truck stop, one night, and can support the previous poster who said it was bloody noisy!
