Yangykala Canyon
 

I'm crossing Turkmenistan this summer from Garabogaz (Kazakhstan) to Gudurolum (Iran) on a transit visa.

I'm hoping to sneak off my transit route in a couple of places, one of them being Yangykala Canyon. Does anyone have GPS coordinates for a viewpoint above the Canyon?

Has anyone driven the road which heads roughly due east, which forks off the M37 around 25 km east of Turkmenbashy? Were there any police checkpoints? How about on the road south from Yangykala back to the M37 about 15 km NW of Balkanabat?

Would be very interested to get some intel on the routes

I'm in car travel throught Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan now.
Sitting in Baku before return to Poland. We were in Yangykala Canyon, moved to the waypoint from LP guide. Unfortunatelly this is not point above the canion.
We stop the cars in LP waypoint and then walk to base of canions.
There are some tracks in to canions but I don't find any for cars especially on the top.
Ask if you have questions.
I entered in Garabogaz and exit in Howdan.

Were you on a transit visa? Did you meet any checkpoints on the 'diversion' from the M37 (main road Turkmenbashi to Ashgabat)?

Could you PM me the waypoint for the viewpoint from the road?

"From the turnoff to Gozli Ata ( marked with a 9km sign) another road continues north to Yangykala Canyon
waypoint is 40.46093 54.71360 "

There aren't checkpoints between main road and canyon.
There are seweral checkpoints on my all road from Garabogaz and Howdan.
Ussually they are not interesting to check us.
I have been to Darwaza and it has been big detour of my schedule but anybody has checked me.
I was on 5 days transit visa.
