Enfield Bullet 500, 1999
I just dug my old bullet out of the garage after 8 years of sitting,, in this time it has gathered a bit of "Patina" with some slight rust etc.. Indian Chrome isn't the best either.. Anyway i'm thinking of firing the old girl up. Aside from getting the battery charged or a new battery and changing all the fluids is there anything else i should be looking at or checking before firing up the beast.. Compression is still good and i notice someone bashed the decompression lever and broke it off so this is going to be a bitch, I am planning to pull the plug and kick it thru a bunch to make sure i am getting oil up to the top end.. Anyone here have any more idea's what i should check/do before i fire the beast???

You could clean the carb, lubricate the cables and brake pivots before riding it.

It runs great, now i gotta find a clutch lever and decompressor lever as someone must have bashed it with something, was wet sumpted and puked a quart of oil on the ground out the ground but cleaned right up..

Change engine and gearbox the oil being it has stood for 8 years.

You might want to check that the rubber in the tyres and tubes is not perishing. personally I would be inclined to change them both plus new rim tapes.
also feel the chain links to make sure none of them has rusted pins. |
Give the old girl a good looking over. Look for loose or corroded wire joints.
