Husquvarna TE610E 05 good overlander?

been looking at one of these, I have been offered one for a good price. thinking of using it for trans africa (east coast) they seem like they are pretty tuff. I have also a large tank avaliable too. the bike's light weight is also an advantage. I know you can't get racks for hard luggage for these bikes, but I can't see why i can't get some made-unless there is something I don't know??I guess strengthening the rear sub frame might be needed. Making the seat more comfortable would be a must. Why are these bikes not more popular in the overlanding comunity?

I've known a few people that have had this bike and I have never heard a negative comment about them. I have seen ones with a tail rack and a hard luggage trunk. Where they were purchased I'm not sure, sorry. As far as the seat goes you may want to check Corbin, Sergeant or Mustang, if you have not already. You may be able to find an aftermarket subframe, I would at least replace the subframe bolts with some beefier hardware. For the luggage mounts, most places will make them with your specified dimensons from the bike.

As for the last part of your post. I would imagine that the reason for this bike not being as popular would be due to the parts avalibility, especially in remote corners of the globe. With the quality of the bike I couldn't forsee any major mechcanical problems arising. Other than the usual wear and tear of overland travel, fork seals, wheel bearings, brakes and rotors, sprockets and chain, etc.

Thanks alot CT they are good links. All i have to do is track down a large Tank for one-they seem to be as rare as rocking horse sh*t from what i have found so far! Any ideas anyone?

I'm not sure of the tank size on your bike, but a friend had a 2002 and used an IMS tank for a TC/TE 450. Although it only increased the capacity 1.5 gallons over the stock tank to 3.9 gallons. IMS also makes a 4.1 gallon tank for the 610. The have it on their website here in the U.S. at www.husqvarnausa.com. Figured I'd pass it on.

Hi thanks for that link. The 4.1G tank something and nothing! from US Gallons that would only be 15.5lts what sort of range would that give on the TE610E? How much would this be increased by going for the TE450 or TE510? Come to that what are peoples opions of these for overland use. Or are these best left for the trails?

I can see the quandry people have over such machines. They look the Mutt's Nuts and they seem to tick a few of the right boxes, but there's this nagging doubt as to they're long-distance suitability to touring. The way i see it, the likes of KTM/Husky/Huasaberg et al are primarily competition-grade kit with intense short-term use intended, with their respective servicing requirements not particularly suited to mile-munching. But hey... if you really want such kit, then just get one and try it for a while - what's the harm other than a bit of a financial hit if it really doesn't suit, at least you've tried it (and got it out of your system, i had this with a Buell!). Give it a go...

Hey, come on Pottsy, I was trying to talk this guy into being a Beta tester for us!

I made some overland trips with a 2000 610TE ... Jordan,Petersburg,Ulan Bator and Katmandu...

Saddle ... solved by sheep skin
Fuel tank ... bought a bigger one (15lt) and used jerry cans... :)
Alternator ... terrible! Caused me great trouble in north Pakistan,

But i think the main reason why it didnt become an overland bike is mainly because lack of logistics ... It was quite hard to provide parts. But i think this will significantly change since BMW bought it... I guess it will possible to procure/find Husky parts from BMW dealers ...

Nothing like real experience!
