Wanted - overland ready vehicle
Hi all,
My girlfriend and i are planning a drive from London to Capetown and are looking to buy a fully kitted out vehicle in good condition to make the trip in. Ideally looking to spend £15k or less on a Landcruiser or Defender that is fully kitted out and ready to go (roof tent/suspension/fridge/storage etc etc). Needs to be in good mechanical condition obviously, though a bit of wear and tear is to be expected. I live in London, but am happy to travel anywhere in the UK to see a vehicle that sounds like it fits the bill. Please let me know if you are looking to sell one, as we are keen to buy fairly quickly if at all possible. thanks in advance, Jonathan |
I spotted this one whilst I was trawling Ebay last night . Expedition ready and the advantage of being LHD so as soon as you leave the UK you are on the correct side .
1998/R Land Rover Freelander Di Camel Trophy LHD 8,600 on eBay (end time 09-Oct-09 09:34:22 BST) Nothing to do with me but just caught my eye.... I have a Freelander and they are very capable and mine has never missed a beat and I've done 45000 km in just over a year. |
I think a 98 Freelander for that trip would be best described as "brave":innocent:
I would prefer something like this:http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ped-sale-45671 No connection BTW, just my opinion. Russ |
I wouldn't agree that taking a freelander would be "brave", all sorts of vehicles go through Africa including 2wd old bangers so compared with that, the freelander would be quite good. However given the starting point is wanting a Landrover or Landcruiser, the freelander wouldn't be a touch on that and you will be limited yourself along the way on things that the Freelander can do versus things that a Landrover / Landcruiser can do.

Or go in style and comfort in an iveco
4x4 campervan iveco 4x4 4x4 van 4x4 camper on eBay (end time 12-Oct-09 20:31:52 BST) plenty of budget left to finish it off and spend on the trip and alot more comfy than a rooftent no connection - just like ivecos :-) |
expedition ready Unimog 404 in London-- for you?
Hi there.
We may have your answer. We are looking to make a quick sale on our Unimog 404. We drove it from London to Cape town in 2006 and she is sitting on the street in northwest London ready for you! The Mog is kitted out with everything you would need and is ready for another trip in Africa. We really don't want to part with her but it is time to find her a nice home and someone that will take care of her from day to day (sitting on London streets and not being driven for 9 months is not the life for a Mog!). There is a small bit of work to do on the car since it hasn't been driven in awhile but the vehicle is in fantastic condition--we even replaced the clutch at the end of our trip (the worst repair job to have done in a 404) so it should be ready for another overland adventure. If you are interested, take a look at the website: Unimog 404 expedition vehicle for sale - photos (we have taken a few things out of the Mog and like I mentioned, there is some basic maintenance to be done to get her up and running again-- I can explain in more detail if you are interested) We are willing to make a really good deal on the Mog if she goes to a good home. Once you review the site and if you are interested, I can give you some more details. Best to respond to me through the email on the website-- info@tiretracks.org Hope to hear from you soon. Hi Jonathan. I might have just the thing you're looking for parked in my drive! A fully kitted Landcruiser. But I'd need to talk to you about it, as it needs a little bit of work.
Please give me a ring, 01629 55855. Or e-mail me, sales@mattsavage.com. Cheers, Matt |

Freelander too rare and or complex and possibly too fragile. Sorry if that winds people up, just my opinion and I’m trying not to be derogatory. But it's horses for courses etc. Russ |
Hi check out ebay 4x4 iveco just check that it fits in a high cube or open top shipping container. Have one at the moment and traveling through Iran, a bit more room than a landcruser and alot of the work already done
good luck mark |
