Camera Equipment Listed on Carnet?
Does anyone have any advice/experience on the pros and cons of listing camera equipment on the carnet?
Same posting to documentation forum. |
Oops! no idea about this one. Anyone else up for the task?

Hai,
I have heared from a friend who has his equipment on a "special" carnet. But he is a profesional and has many big boxes of gear. I guess if you don't have to much stuff, like most tourists, there is no need for it. Maarten |
I have never declared any camera equipment on a carnet and don't think it is ever needed for the average person, and don't recommend doing it. You instantly become a "professional" or photojournalist, and may not be welcomed.
Any reason why you would want to list it? ------------------ Grant Johnson One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
A previous employer (who operated hot air balloons) always put the ballooning and all the electronic equipment - radios, transponders etc on the carnet so 'it's on the carnet so uk taxes have been paid'.
I'd only want to list it for the same reason - to avoid paying import taxes and discussions as to where it was bought etc. If the camera is expensive kit - F5 + fast lenses etc then the amounts could be large. So I guess it looks like a 'no' then. Thanks for your advice. |
We have always carried photocopies of the receipts for expensive items to eliminate such hassle. And to be absolutely safe, the originals are kept with someone who can mail them if needed. Paranoid perhaps, never needed, but certainly eliminates any worries!
We also carry the original bill of sale for the bike, (they won't always take a copy) and a notarised copy, which we offer first when requested, and of course a notarised copy is left at home. ------------------ Grant Johnson One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
