Ecuador, Cuenca. Great Mecahnic.
Hola HU Community,
I can recommend a great mechanic shop in Cuenca, Ecuador. I had an accident in northern Peru, got the bike rideable at a small mechanic shop there but needed more work when I got to Cuenca. I got an excellent carb-clean, new spark-plug, new indicator, new switch-box for the indicators and headlights, new horn, new windscreen, new fuel filter and I had a new license plate made up. The switch-box and windscreen are not original (I'm riding a KLR 650), but the mechanics sourced the bits from other bikes and made it all work sweet. I paid $77 USD all up. The mechanics there regularly service larger bikes, in the yard there was another KLR and heaps of moto-cross types. Can't remember the owner's name sorry, but it's a family affair and his wife handles the accounts. No English, but they're patient with your crap Spanish. The business card says they handle all bike types. Moto Xtreme Sport Cristobal Colon y Emilio Prado entre 12 de Octubre Tel: 4090455 Cel: 094580272 Good luck. Carsten Kiwi Rider 'Round Sth Am trip. |

This guy Mario is great! He helped us out a great deal after a shitty service job on the valves in Lima (you can read about that here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ima-peru-19667 ).
He talks to you about what he does (in our case readjusting the valve distances and improvising a little part for the carbs) and you can ask him all kinds of questions. We arrived in the evening; put the bike there so it could cool off and he started working on it the next morning so we could leave in the afternoon as we were in a hurry. Also, it's good value! We paid 30 dollars for 4 hours work. And our bike is running great again :) And if you want to wait there; they have wifi. His wife is nice and does the bills and his two daughters were amazingly sweet and kept bringing us puppies (four!) to cuddle while we were waiting. Even for servicing in between Lima and Quito, this might be a good option. Lots of big bikes there (e.g. KTM Adventure and KLR); he knows what he's doing. Cheers |
Marius/Mario did a great job on the airsystem of my Transalp and toke apart my carburator and cleaned it. The bike is running like new with a lot more power. A very well recomanded mecanic!!!

Very happy with Mario and the team. Valve clearance / few other small jobs. Bike runs great, price was 1/6th of my European mechanic. They even clean every customer's bike... Lots of MX 450's in the yard.
