8 days around Annapurna, Nepal
Here is a very brief account of our blast around a good proportion of the Annapurna Circuit, starting in Pokhara. This was an eventful trip, riddled with breakdowns, a number of punctures, a few drops but a wealth of warmth and support from the locals.
Collecting our Crossfire 250s, we rode out of Pokhara and headed west and then north towards Manang:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_1474-X3.jpg The road to Manang:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_0052-X4.jpg As the sun set, the views of the mountains and cascading waterfalls were incredible:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_1479-X4.jpg Sadly it wasn't long before one of the bikes was felled by a terminal electrical problem, leaving us reliant on a lift from the locals, hauling the bike back to the nearest town:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_1631-X4.jpg In spite of the mechanic's work, as well as the supervision of most passers by, the bike still wouldn't run:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_1505-X4.jpg We managed to get the bike back to Pokhara where it was eventually fixed and we hit the other side of the Annapurna Circuit, aiming for Muktinath:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_0069-X4.jpg Dodging Marpha, in favour of some big water splashes...that I didn't photograph inexplicably...!! https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_2073-X4.jpg Arriving in Jomsom, we soon headed up towards Muktinath and the highest point we'd hit on the ride:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_0098-X4.jpg Climbing towards the Thorung La pass:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_2130-X4.jpg Climbing the pass, before ice and altitude stopped our progress:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_2149-X4.jpg Looking back down the valley towards Muktinath:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_1544-X4.jpg The prayer flags at the Muktinath temples:- https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike-trip...MG_2164-X4.jpg |
Peter, you need to do a presentation on this at HUBB UK! It's a perfect mini-trip - something almost anyone can squeeze in - and with your great photos would be fantastic!
|
Grant - I'd more than happy to do a presentation and convey some vital lessons learnt, however am sadly busy that weekend. Next year perhaps?!
|
You're on for next year! Of course you can cancel whatever unimportant thing you WERE doing and come ;)

Hello Peter,
These photos look stunning. It's one of my very big dreams to ride in the Himalayas. You mentioned you were able to collect the 250cc Crossfires from Pokhara. Can you shed some more light on this? Was this an organised tour, or did you rent the bikes? Could you kindly forward the company/prices? Once again, thank you very much for sharing! Best, Alex |
Incredible photos, what camera did you use?

I don't think the in-laws would be impressed... but yea, happy to next year! Alex - Thank you. We rented them from Hearts & Tears MC in Pokhara. They don't offer bike rentals any more, but I gather that other companies rent them out too. Hearts and Tears MC offer the bikes on organised tours with backup only now. I must admit that if I did the trip again, I would rent the actual Honda CRF250 that the Crossfire is based on, but you can only do this from Kathmandu seemingly. Price is about $60 per day. MFal - Thanks! They were taken with either my iPhone 7 or Canon 5D Mk3 with 17-40mm f4 L. |
Peter, thank you for the swift reply, much appreciated! I will go and check it out, hoping for a big adventure!
Best, Alex |
