Iceland 2008!!
Quick Version: If your interested in the 2 min Iceland Trailer GO HERE!
So I teamed up with a buddy and headed for Iceland! Its was a great trip! Two weeks of breath taking views that I cant even begin explaining! Aug 2008 We had a sweet chaser vehicle driven by a good friend who owns 4x4Offroads and the vehicle was his Explorer Sport Trac on 38s! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3266/...c431cd9285.jpg We rode New KLRs from Riding Iceland. Haddi was a great guy! If your ever in that area, I would HIGHLY recommend getting in touch with his company! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3232/...82d561934f.jpg We spent a couple of days in Reykavik seeing the local sites and eating at some really nice restaurants! MMMMM! We avoided anything that was a "chain" and really tried spending time eating local food. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3256/...e993188f1b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3100/...1dfb24e491.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3211/...03ce0d50e1.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/...e265d3cd50.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/...83e1fa33ac.jpg Sure beat the heck out of canned sardines, thats for sure! |
After getting used to the bikes, and spending 2 days so stuffed we could hardly ride, we hit the road! Our goal was to just hit the road seeing the sites without any real schedule. If something or someone interested us, we stopped. Simple as that.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3090/...460cf1f7ce.jpg First thing we enjoyed was a 4 wheeler trip along the coast. We got to run up to the top of the surrounding mountains and overlooked the Blue Lagoon. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3097/...26003fbb0f.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3127/...a135a7bbfd.jpg We then headed up the coast. What a blast! I was so amazed at the amount of waterfalls we saw! They were everywhere! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/...8a34f3e403.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3093/...8f926eb3af.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3251/...9d426c7776.jpg After the first day of riding we told Thrandur, our Icelandic chase buddy, that we were ready for some dirt! He mentioned a shortcut that was alot of fun. Hmm, sounds good. Shortcuts usually end up being crazy! Lets do it. We were right! River crossing after crossing! My boots were sloshing all day!LOL. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/...cf5a32f651.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3083/...52be3322ec.jpg |
After talking with a local in a small town over dinner, we decided to take another "short cut" nicknamed The Big Nothing. Now doesnt that sound interesting?
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3102/...0e574958ba.jpg It was sweet! We were out in the middle of the island riding between two very large glaciers! The views were spectacular! And plenty of river crossings there as well! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3231/...216fa26297.jpg We stayed in a hut out there for the night. Sure glad we decided to do that instead of tent it. The winds picked up thru the night, to over 100mph!!!!! Came out in the morning and found this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3222/...a1ddb90d9a.jpg The wind actually blew the bikes up and OVER the kickstands. First time Ive been in a wind that actually physically put me into a run. After waiting a couple hours in the morning waiting for the weather report, we decided to hit the road. That has to be some of toughest riding Ive done. ALL day fighting 80mph winds on windy dirt roads. Needless to say we spent sometime "offroad". Now this photo is obviously staged. But we thought it was funny. I have no idea what moved that rock that far without leaving any tire or track marks! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3295/...b9881bb47b.jpg This one unfortunatly wasnt staged. After all day fighting wind and completly tired, I got off the bike and forgot to put down the kickstand! Good grief I need a nap! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3196/...0d1abbe044.jpg Ended down by the Ocean on the souther part of the island. Stayed at a cabin on the ocean. Man, what a ride! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/...e60f28c7b9.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/...1c61a63ba4.jpg If you want to see the Video version check it out here: OverlandJourney: Icelandic Adventure! |
Ah, I see. Was just getting your tale then I realised this thread is a plug for a video of your trip that you are selling. I note that you say that all profits are going to charity, though.
