Morocco - Adventures and Ineptitudes
I got a lot of useful advice and inspiration from people on this forum whilst preparing for this trip.
Thanks to everyone who helped. I've put some pics and stuff up here Morocco by motorbike the title pretty much says it all - I got away with a lot by just being plain lucky - 6 months riding experience probably wasn't enough! - still, i loved it all. I definitely going back! cheers people! |
Great trip report Kip

Great report - fancy going again this xmas? See the travellers wanted section.

hmmm. Not sure about the wisdom of going at xmas - seemed like a good idea at the time! The short days and temperatures get a bit boring.
Ideal time would be sept-oct or mar-april i think now i've spent time talking to people who have a clue. I can accept the unpredictable the weather, but its the lack of daylight that was the problem for me. Getting up at sunrise and stopping riding at sundown gives suprisingly short days. I know its usually easier to get time off over xmas, but I think next time it will be a more sensible journey down there (prob involving a car + trailer for the bike(s)) - saving precious holiday time for the decent riding itself. |
Excellent report. I'm heading that way in July...I think I'll go see Peter at Bikershome!!

Hey Kipp,
great read, i was enthralled. This is a trip i really fancy doing but i would like to take about 4 weeks to do it and maybe get all the way down into western sahara. just got to get her majesty to give me enough time off to get it done. do you have any more trips planned? Mike |
'low-key' ---
Well done Kipp - just got back to Hubb after a few years away playing with road bikes and yours is the first Ride Report I have taken in.
I love your low-key approach - most of us manage to sound as if we are doing sumthin dangerous or scary :eek3: probably because that's how we felt at the time. Was particularly interested as I intend heading down that way in April 2010 on my Tenere. Your graphic report of the snow and cold on your route soon quenched any ideas I may have had to set out earlier. I'll be 68 by the time my ride takes place so I'm sure you won't grudge me a few home comforts. I do plan to take my tent though to help save a few pennies and it was interesting to find that you were able to use yours without much hassle. Good luck on your travels in the future and I look forward to reading your reports :thumbup1: givit :Beach: |

We should be going up and down Morocco for 3 or 4 weeks aprox. so probably see you there...? Look for the Portuguese flag in the wind screen! |
I missed this report first time round, but it's a great read, I really enjoyed it.
I'm pleased you read up beforehand with Gandini, and you did a couple of tracks I have yet to cover. Loved the initiatives in overcoming problems, especially the handlebar muffs! Tim |
Morocco Adventure
Really interesting ride report.
