After my previous trip - Riding Across Europe ( here you can find thread ) I decide to realize my next dream... adventure across North America. :scooter:

Weronica, be sure to see the HU Events page and try to get to as many HU Meetings as you can! You'll meet lots of great people and get a lot of great advice on what to see.

A Tip for the British Columbia section - that's the boring route - go Vancouver - Whistler - Duffy Lake - Nakusp and north from there, then east to Jasper and Banff then back south!

W. I admire your trip, but the posted route will have you riding in traffic and through a lot of cities. You will miss a lot of the best that America has to offer. Enjoy your trip!

Instead of riding through Nebraska, I'd recommend riding north of there through Wyoming - South Dakota. That way you can visit Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, etc.

But then again, it's your ride and you may well have reasons for picking the route you did.

The expedition has begun but the beginnings were not easy. 24 hours before departure, I thought I’ll get crazy. Nothing went right… sometimes I thought that some people forget where I was going… like I would just ride a 100km trip around the home.

On Wednesday, I show up at the airport to fly off into the direction of my dreams with a smile on my face, because in the last second to the group of Partners joined Sony Mobile who provide smartphone Sony Xperia Z1 , which will capture all the fleeting moments during this trip. (With 23kg baggage limit I was terribly glad that I will not have to carry a DSLR camera with all the lenses. Additionally, this phone is waterproof… so screwy the rain :D

Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean it occurred to me that it wasn’t a dream. And from now on I will be on my own and I can count only on complete strangers… the only question was… will they want to help me?

So far, I can say that this help for me is a little bit intimidating. First three days I couch surf in apartment of Polish girl who lives in New York for a last 5 years. Monica thank you dear for your help! You made the acclimatization much more easier.)

Big thanks also to the Guys from Triumph Westchester. They prepared Bonneville perfectly to the road. In addition, I can admit that my jaw dropped on the floor when I crossed the threshold of the dealership… of course motorcycles were beautiful… but surprise was the fact that the owners of this place are two Poles!

There was also setback :P from New York I wanted to leave about 9am, but the driver sent by the dealership had mistaken… Brooklyn with Manhattan. The result?! I jumped on Bonneville after 4pm… and I had still to ride 379km. And at the end someone turned on the faucet and added a few lightning. Delightfully right?! And all this on the first day in the saddle on American soil.
To Baltimore I arrived just before 10pm.

As usual… I left later than I used to but it happens when it’s hard to leave the place where you spent the night and you have met great people. So it was in Williams, where I’ve met Richard (motorcyclist and traveler). Great man whom I found through the portal Couchsurfing. Richard have also an amazing neighbor "Julcia" - which parents were born in Poland. When she saw that I decided to stay she made "golabki" and apple pie! You don’t even realize how moving are such a gestures, when you’re traveling for few weeks in a foreign land.
So after 10am I jumped on Bonni and for a moment we were not alone in this journey (Richard was riding with us). We rode together by historic road "Route 66" (the mother of all roads in the U.S.), then we parted in Seligman. And from that moment the sun began shine strongly! I felt I was getting closer to Nevada. I was melting under the layers of protective clothing. Sometimes I envied the other riders that they ride in jeans and t- shirts. Refilling fluids didn’t help, because after 20 minutes I felt as if someone threw me in the oven. There was no shade, in which we could hide with Triumph.
Last ounce of strength we pass the Hoover Dam and we got to Las Vegas, which was frizzle in the sun. You can believe me or not but it was “better" ride in a closed helmet than with an open visor.
This time I found shelter in Erik (Hungarian) house. A man who is a true host for many travelers. Besides me under his roof slept a couple of Germans and two Austrians who started few weeks ago their journey around the world. And what can do such a little "European Union" in Las Vegas ? Go to drive go-karts ! When the rest had already fallen from exhaustion, I decided that I’ll sleep in home - Poland... and with host I went to the city center.

I must admit that on the one hand, Las Vegas intimidating and on the other was overwhelmingly sad. I watched people playing the machines, and they did it so mechanically, as if they were working in a factory, no emotions. Somehow I prefer other forms of spending time... of course designer shops tempt with their new collections but the prices were staggering.
Leaving Las Vegas was not easy task… it was terribly hot - horribly! For the first time I thought I'll die. While riding rescued me viaducts, because only there I could find a bit of shade to escape from the scorching sun just for a few minutes. I looked in the mirror and I saw a ghost… not a man. The weather was inhuman. At that moment I envied others that are driving car with air condition, because with Bonni we were sick of Nevada.

And when I saw the green mountains of California… I could finally breathe. It got a little cooler.

They call Los Angeles… City of Angels... and I’ve met few of them!!
Starting from the motorcycle family Ybardolaza, who helped me to get back into shape after a grueling Nevada where I have dehydrated. Thank you for every minute of the time that we spent together and for the fact that I felt at your house like at home.
Further Angels were Marc Grace, who opened their house to completely strange girl from a distant Poland - thanks to you Guys I could taste a little bit of Los Angeles. And I send big hugs to Tony who fulfilled one of my dreams and thanks to him I could visit two film Studios: Paramount and Fox in a VIP style.

Just passed 40th day of my adventure with Bonneville. Yesterday was the midway point of the expedition - Big Sur has become a kind of icing on the cake for me. I must admit that I make few tears of joy. I would like to write to you all! Don’t give up, ... fight for your dreams! We are all waiting for the perfect moment which doesn’t exist, because on the horizon there gonna be always such things as money, work, study, family... Take the first step and think how you can realize your dreams with what you have. My "fight" took me three years and here I am over the Pacific Ocean, riding one of the most beautiful motorcycle route in the world... I stand sometimes and pinch myself because I'm not sure if isn’t a dream... illusion…
And so we follow the trail with Triumph… riding ahead…

Last week was intense. California spoiled me with stunning roads. After Big Sur I thought that nothing will surprise me... and BANG!! I rode Higway 1 from Janner to Mendocino, Ca. Wild beaches, twisty road, fog over the mountains, low traffic… and just me & Bonneville on the road… ‘We’ had to be careful because precipice waited to swallow tourist that stare to long while riding.
And then came time for Oregon. The state in which… rain… makes Oregon green. And it was cloudy, rainy, wet… chilly… I was riding Pacific Coast Highway till Lincoln City where I said good bye to the Pacific Ocean and I went to Portland. City that I barely know but thanks to my Couchsurfing Hosts (Amy & Carl) I tasted it a little bit and discover that many movies were made there like Twilight, Mr Brooks or The Road…
After Portland time came for Seattle and Washington state. With Bonneville we had to face with few storms… I was lucky because I have great Triumph Navigator Jacket which can stand heavy rains and I don’t need to wear rain gear! But Bonneville... that poor guy had to struggle with water by himself… lucky in Seattle we found a shelter in one of the ADVrider members house - Marcin vel. Huzar. Which was full of other ‘bikes’ so Bonneville could complain to other motorcycle where this crazy, blond, Polish chic took him... :P

"Welcome in Canada!" That’s what I heard from Publican at the Canadian border. Now I realize how many kilometers I already rode,… that slowly I’m coming back “home” with Bonneville... to New York. But before I’ll again see the Statue of Liberty... I’ll ride via lots of interesting routes if only the weather allows me. Last time when I checked the weather it turned out that it's snowing in Montana... and I'm not going to fix ski on Bonneville...
But I have to share with you with something else... on every mile I deal with amazing hospitality! And so it is in Vancouver! I was greeted with “Makowiec” (polish cake) and “Barszcz” (a traditional polish soup)... yes, yes!! Katarina, who took me under her roof wanted to greet me in a exceptionally way that I would fell like at home for a moment. I must admit that she succeeded.
And so we spent the last two days speaking in English, Slovak and Polish and creating here in the far, far away land a piece of our Slavic land.

After 10 000 miles together… I should write something about my friend. YES Friend!! Mr. #Triumph #Bonneville. At the beginning lots of people couldn’t believe that I choose him. But Hey Guys!! I was looking for good Pal with “soul” not a fancy, full of gadgets “STAR TREK” motorcycle!!
We needed just the few miles to get to know each other. Bonneville is easy to handle motorcycle on the parking and on the road. He loves turns. He behaves like an antelope on curved roads compering to big, heavy cows like cruisers or choppers. I really had fun riding Deals Gap and Big Sur on Bonneville.
In parking situation I didn’t have any problems with handling him by myself and I must admit that my luggage weights 30kg (66lb).
Of course with all this bags he lost a little bit of his charm... of a “city boy – café racer style” but he’s still vintage guy. And when I start the engine… on my face you can see smile… because on Triumph you just feel happy! And what’s funny you see smile on the faces of other people - even in Kingdom of Harley!! It’s because when we see Bonneville we move back to the 60’s and we think that in the next corner we will meet Steve McQueen. And that’s the magic of this bike we can feel special; we can join to club of Gerard Butler, Hugh Laurie, Ryan Reynolds or David Beckham.

67HP is enough to ride across the continent and this engine won’t ruin your budget!! My record is 3.6l/100km (65,3mpg)! Isn’t that a scooter result? And the average fuel consumption isn’t far from that
While my trip I didn’t have any problems with Triumph!! He blink to me only once with red light but it was because of a big pothole and I think he wanted to say to me “Hey Girl!! Wake up!! Avoid these bastards!”. While my trip I’ve made only one guaranty service and I changed tires after more than 8 000 miles and… that’s it!!
For me Bonneville is the essence of style, timeless motorcycle that has a soul. I don’t want to beat any record, I want to soak up the world which becomes more clear at lower speeds. I also like minimalism, because nowadays too many gadgets distract our attention from what’s really important. Besides, you can’t buy adventure, you can only experience it – “Ride Your Own Biography”. Of course you won’t fell on this motorcycle like on the couch in your living room but seriously do you expect it from motorbike?!? We love to ride on motorcycle because we can experience world: fell the wind, smell the forest, see the scenic views from the saddle.
And you know what?!? YES, I would love to take Bonneville for a next adventure!!
