Episode 14 – Video

This video starts with a short visit in Oamaru and it's 6 minutes long. Then we move on highway 83 along Waitaki River, on our way to Omarama. We camped that night at Ahuriri Bridge Campground, which is a Department of Conservation (DOC) basic campground, therefore providing only an outhouse. Although the surrounding scenery was very beautiful… it was free of charge.

A note for my friends at Parks Canada : There is no entry fee to the National Parks in New Zealand. All campgrounds within National Parks are managed by the DOC and 4 different rates apply. Note that rates are per person. Services : $18. ; Scenic : $13, Standard : $8 and Basic (free). From my experience so far and from what you have seen in episode 8, there is no control on the number of campers. People are free to set-up their tent, car or camper van (RV) anywhere, one or two rangers try to apply minimum control to ensure revenues however facilities are clearly overused and the land not always thoroughly protected… :nono:

Update March 6, 2017

Hello!

Here's the map showing our itinerary for the second portion of our trip in South Island. We have added about 1400 km more in that section, therefore a total of 3400 km from Amberley to Westport where we arrived on Feb 20.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4206/...ddb7077415.jpg Map 2

The next video (episode 17) shows our trip from Amberley through Lewis Pass (Hwy 7 North), going to Hanmer Springs next to Waiau River, then taking Hwy 6 along Buller River and ends at Westport.

Other episodes should be posted shortly, we are still having challenges finding proper unlimited WiFi connection. We are currently close to Whangarei, North Island. Weather is great, getting warmer every day!

Foulwind Colony of Seals and Paparoa National Park

In this episode, you will see nice views of the sunset at the colony of seals near Westport. It felt to me like we were teenagers again as we were both on Richard's bike while maintenance was done on mine. We had lots of fun on a very curvy road going to Pancake Rocks and back to Westport.
So far, I have not added any music to the videos and left purposely the natural surrounding sound so that you can hear for example the noise from crickets as we take a trail in the 'jungle'. Sometimes, we can also hear our comments in some scenes which of course, are in French. Some sequence in this video have been accelerated (2X), therefore in this case the sound is automatically muted.
The video is about 15 min long.

Episode 19 - Going to Golden Bay

In this video, you will see scenes from our ride to Abel Tasman NP, coming back through Kaiteriteri road, going through Takaka Hill (25 km of curves) and ends with a refreshing swim at Pohara Beach (Golden Bay). Some scenes have been accelerated (X2). The video is about 14 min long.

Episode 20 - Abel Tasman NP and Cape Farewell, South Island, NZ

In this episode, we are leaving Pohara Beach, going east to Wainui Falls (Abel Tasman NP) then going west along Golden Bay to Cape Farewell where there are spectacular views of the cliffs and bay. On our return, we were very impressed when visiting Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve, the NZ largest freshwater springs which are exceptionally clear. This site is absolutely gorgeous!
Finally on our way back south, a stop at Hawkes Lookout after riding through Takaka Hills again (Hwy 60). Some scenes have been accelerated (2X) therefore the sound is muted automatically for those. The video is about 10 min long.
